Dried Tears

I told my mom I was gonna walk around and she told me to keep my phone on me and to try not to get lost. I called Wink's name, so he could come along with me because I didn't want feel alone. I headed out the door with Wink hot on my trail. His fur blowing in the wind made him look like a doggy supermodel, and at that I cracked up. I laugh at everything which isn't very good in my case. My laugh isn't in any way shape or form angelic. My mom says it's that kind of infectious laugh that spreads to others like a disease which I guess was okay. I mean I could make other people laugh right? Anyways, we headed down the street and I stumbled upon a nice little park with a cute pond in the back. There was a bench that was occupied by a girl who looked to be about my age with strawberry blond, shoulder length, wavy hair. She was hugging her knees and her shoulders were shaking up and down. It wouldn't take a genius to know she was crying. I walked up to her and decided to ask her what was wrong. I don't want her to think I'm pushy, so if she doesn't want to tell me she doesn't have to. "Hey, are you okay?" I asked uncertainly. She looked up at me and replied with red, puffy eyes, "No." Holy nuggets her eyes were pretty. She started to chuckle slightly. "Did I say that out loud?" I asked. "Holy nuggets?"
Yep I definitely said it out loud.
"Haha, yeah well I don't like cuss words so I use replacement words instead. Oh sorry, I didn't even tell you my name. It's Sheila-May, but you can just call me Sheila," I said.
"Wow you're name is pretty, I'm Shaunna," she said "But everyone calls me Briaunna."
"How do you get Briaunna from Shaunna?" I questioned.
"Well my first name is Shaunna and my middle name is Briunna."
Haha Shaunna Briaunna, that's fun to say.
"I know, it's fun to say," she said, voicing my thoughts.
"Well Shaunna Briaunna, care to tell me what you're crying over? You don't have to, but you can if you want," I told her matter of factly.
"It's a long story," she replied with a sigh. I pretended to look at the watch I didn't have and said "I have time," and she giggled.
" Well my mother left me when I was 3, she just walked out of my life without a care in the world, and my dad works in the military so I'm forced to live with my aunt. She's not bad but I have SO many cousins, so it's always chaotic. I hate it! And now my dad is moving to Korea so I'm stuck with her even longer," she said with a mixture of anger and despair.
I just listened to her, deciphering if whether or not I just listen or try to console her, I can't relate, but I think I'll go with the latter.
"Well your dad obviously loves you, and you should be very honored to have a brave father like him," unlike mine who's a coward, I thought to myself. "As for your mother, I have no clue as to why she would leave because you seem to be an amazing person and anyone would be lucky to have a daughter like you. You're beautiful inside and out, and don't let your mom, or anyone else for that matter, lead you to believe any differently."
This was the time Wink thought would be perfect to hop up onto Bri's lap and start licking away the trail of salt left behind from her tears. She started to laugh and once he stopped, she spoke again. "You should really be a counselor. Like foreal, you made me feel so much better, and what's weird is usually I would've said I'm fine to anyone else, but something compelled me to tell you the truth. I feel like I've known you forever and I trust you. It's weird. I feel so connected to you.
Oh no, I probably just weirded you out didn't I?"
"No, not at all, the feelings are mutual," I said with delight. And it was true, I felt so close to her and we had only known each other for 15 minutes. The disdainful look replaced that happy look on her face as she said it was time for her to go home.
"I really don't want to go home," she said dreadfully.
I have no clue what led me to say this, but I did. "You can stay at my place. We just moved here, so there's boxes and stuff everywhere, but you're welcome to stay."
My mother was very understanding when it comes to things like this, so I know she wouldn't mind.
"Really?" Bri asked with such light in her eyes, it shined through to mine.
"Of course," I assured. "But we better get going, my mom will start to worry," I half joked.
"Alright," she replied.
I think I just found my new bestfriend.
