A Second Chance

Before being consumed by the darkness, he heard my footsteps going towards him. Who is that? Meh. Doesn't matter. Im gonna die anyways.
I positioned the hose at the base of the flame. I let the foamy substance douse the flames. I could smell the sweetest of scents there. I knelt near the Camerlengo. He became unconscious.
I argued with myself in my mind. Should I help him or leave him here? Mr. Langdon would kill me if he finds out. Should I turn him in and let him face horrifying punishment or save him and give him a second chance.
Finally. I decided to give him a second chance. He needed it. His face forlorn; wracked by the look of pain. He did do horrible things but... that doesn't entitle him to suffer this way. I could be kicked out of Harvard University or worse, excommunicated...but it doesn't matter... At least it was worth it.  Should I tell Mr. Langdon? Would he turn me in? Why does this have to be so hard...
I latched his arm over my shoulder. I scanned the area, looking for an easier escape where people won't notice us. I struggled under the weight of the Camerlengo as I walked over to the back gate. There were Swiss guards guarding the gate so I decided to look for another one. The Gardens!
