Connor's POV:
I fumbled with my keys to the front door and thought about what Mary had said after her German class. She'd asked me over to have dinner and then to watch Spiderman. When I'd finally gotten inside the house I walked into the living room to see my mother making this giant sculpture.
"Hey mum!" I said planting a kiss on her cheek.
"Hey, baby. How was school?" she asked as she knocked over a bag of nails "Whoops!"
I dived down to retrieve them "Good." I said not mentioning James or Christina "Do you know Mary?"
"Mary? I don't know a Mary" She said ruffling my hair "Why?"
I gave her the nails and sat down on the sofa "Mary Born. I'm certain you know her mother."
"Oh! Tessa's girl. Yeah, I know her" she said pulling her hair into a bun.
"Well, I'm going over for dinner tonight"
My mum turned to look at me "Shut up!" she waved her arm out knocking over the nails again. I bent down to get them but she stopped me.
"Connor, is she your girlfriend?" She said putting her hands on her hips.
"Nope" I said getting up "Not yet"
I planted another kiss on her cheek and made my way upstairs "I'm going to get ready"
"It's 4:00!" I heard her yell.
I stopped and turned around. My head bent.
"It is 4:00. I said drumming my fingers on my thighs. "How about I help you?"
My mother smiled and gave me a hammer.
"Yeah! I can get my Viking heritage on!" I said swinging the hammer.
"Connor, you're not a Viking you're German!" my mum said with a wink "Well, not really. You've got some Viking in you and you've got even less of German in you"
"Well, I guess we better bring out the beer." I said going to the kitchen.
I picked up a can of beer for my mother and I got myself a glass of water. I actually did like beer but I didn't drink much at all so I didn't, well, drink it.
My mum and I built her sculpture which was in the end just a giant spiral. It actually looked alright.
Pretty cool.
It was 5:00 when I went upstairs to get changed.
I stood in front of my cupboard, looking for something that looked somewhat formal. Nothing. I had no button up shirts.
I spun around and grabbed my hair. In the end I picked up a plain blue shirt and jeans.
I sat down to fix my glasses. While I worked on them I was wearing my father's glasses. We, coincidently had the same type of terrible vision. I decided to wear his instead of mine and at 5:47 I was ready to go.
I was supposed to be there at 7:00.
I hopped down the stairs to see my mother sprawled on the floor.
"….Mum?"
"Yoga, Connor. Do you want to join?" She said bending upwards. Ouch…
"I might go and get some flowers for Mary" I said rubbing my neck.
My mother turned around and stared at me.
"What is it?" I asked drumming my fingers on my neck.
