Christina POV:

"I'm home" I yelled into the empty building "and as usual. No fudging reply"

My stomach tossed and turned, wanting something to eat.

I tossed my bag onto a broken chair and made my way up the creaking stairs and my room.

I lived in an abandoned building with my older sister who usually never came home. The stairs were about to break, and the roof ready to collapse.

I needed a new place to go.

My bedroom was probably the only part of the house that wasn't broken down. My bed was intact and I had a desk, and a window that looked out onto the street.

I walked to the bathroom, my neck aching.

I looked in the mirror…but I wasn't there.

I reached forward and touched it. My reflection should have been there!

I screamed.

I touched my neck, which was coated with dry blood.

No..

No..

I began to cry and I screamed as loud as I could.

"Help!" I yelled into the empty mirror.

I fell to the floor and stared at my perfect legs.

I ran the bath and began to cut at them with my razor. But my legs seemed to begin to bleed and then heal immediately. I felt no pain at all.

I cried as I peeled off the dry blood.

How did this happen?

I remembered my earlier incident with the boy in the alley, and I started to laugh.

I was going crazy.

Vampires were just stupid things of fiction.

I laughed even harder, wiping away my tears.

I licked my lips as I started to understand my hunger.

I slipped out of the bath and changed into a pair of jeans and a cropped top.

I didn't need make-up anymore. Not even eye-liner or mascara but I put some on anyway.

I felt beautiful.

I felt dangerous.

The dark night had crept over the sky and I laughed as I set off to have a look around.

"Hello" I heard a voice.

It belonged to a female around my age, who had dark punk-like hair, and ripped up jeans.

"You're the newbie?" She asked stepping closer.

I swung my arm at her, wanting to scratch her.

She dodged easily and laughed.

I came at her again but before I knew it I was being held up against the wall and the girl was baring her fangs at me.

"Is that how you treat your chief?"

I trembled. Chief?

She let go of me and I fell to the ground. She smiled sweetly and knelt next to me.

"Kiana" she said extending her hand "I'm Chief of the Crescent Clan."

She showed me her neck which had a crescent moon tattooed onto it.

"Jon bit you today, didn't he?" she said brushing my hair behind my ear.

I nodded, scared at her icy touch.

"Yeah, he's got a problem dealing with the Hunger" Kiana said pouting.

"I'm Christina" I said, trying not to sound scared. "19 years old in September"

She smiled "I know".

"What's happened to me?" I asked not wanting to know the answer.

She smiled so wide that I could see fangs instead of incisors. Did I look like that too?

"Vampires" She said casually "Come on, say it with me"

"Vampires" we both said.

"Yay!" She said and stood up "Meredith? Leah?"

Two other girls stepped out next to her "Tell little Chris the rules, okay? I'm going out for a snack"

They stared at me.

"I'm Meredith" One finally said and pulled me to my feet. She had shoulder length brown hair and big green eyes. I didn't smile at her. I didn't like her.

"I'm Leah" The other one said, glaring at me.

I smirked at her and said "Chris. I'm Christina, but I'm called Chris."

"I think we'll call you Christina."

I stared up into the sky "So you want to tell me the rules?"

Meredith smiled in that fake air hostess like way "1. No biting humans unless Chief says so"

Leah added on "2. If you disobey the Chief you're killed"

"3. You can't hang around in direct sunlight meaning you can go out and about but not to a really sunny place"

"why not?" I asked.

"You burn" Leah said casually.

I raised my eyebrows.

"Number 4" Meredith said "No threats of biting members of the clan."

"5." Leah said examining her purple nails "no attacking humans unless Chief says so"

They said nothing after.

"Alright" I said "Can I go home now?"

My phone rang out loud.

"What is it?" I answered.

"Yo, Chris, can I come over tonight? I have something important to tell you."

It was Tristan.

I stared up. I was hungry. It must have been The Hunger Kiana mentioned.

"Sure" I said remembering I couldn't bite him.

"Cool. See you in a bit".

He hung up and I said goodbye to Leah and Meredith before going back 'home'.
