Connor's POV:

"Where you going, babe?" My mum said pulling her hair into a bun and securing it with a paintbrush.

I smiled. She had paint splatters all over her face and clothes.

"Out" I said poking the green splatter on her nose.

"To Mary's?" she said dabbing her paintbrush into a bright green paint.

I wrapped my hands lightly around her neck "Nope. To Chris's place". I fake chocked her and she laughed shoving me away.

"Chris who? You've never mentioned him."

"Christina" I said staring at the piece she was painting.

"Christina got a last name?"

"Not that I know. Maybe Christina the scary goth who went all perky and friendly"

My mum shrugged and whistled a song from Les Mis "What happened to Mary?"

"Nothing" I said shocked.

She stared at me with her piercing blue eyes "Don't cheat on her, she's very nice"

I laughed "I'm not dating her, and Chris is a friend. Gosh, Mum, I'm flattered you think I can pick up girls so easily"

"Well, you have your father's looks" she smiled and continued painting "This is for you"

I smiled as she dragged the brush across the smooth canvas.

"I know how much you love green" She whispered shaping a face.

I kissed her on the cheek "Well, bye."

I made my way to the door yelling "I love you, DFTBA, stay awesome, coolest mother in the galaxy!"

I heard her cackle loudly, and I shut the door softly before checking the directions to Chris's house on my phone, making sure that I had my Swiss Army pocket knife in my bag (because carrying knives in pockets is weird) along with a copy of The Fault In Our Stars by John Green that made me cry several times.

"Good book"

I turned around to see a guy around my age staring at me with bright blue eyes "Hey there" I said nervously.

"You read lots of John Green?" he asked

I nodded and put the book back in my bag "Yeah. He's pretty good"

He nodded awkwardly "yeah well, I've seen some of your art. It's pretty good"

I smiled "I don't do art. Thats my mum."

He nodded again looking off to the sky.

"I'm Henry, by the way." He said still looking up.

"Connor" I said.

He reached out his hand and I nervously shook it. Henry didn't seem to smile at all. He was shorter than me (no surprise there, I am a twiggy Hagrid) and had dark messy hair that fell all over the place.

"I've not seen you around" I said slinging my bag.

"I live just there" he said pointing at the house directly across mine.

"Whoa." I said.

"Yeah, well, I'd love to hang out some time" he said, his eyes were creepily cool.
