Connor POV:

Mary and I started getting closer. Whenever we saw each other in the hallways, we'd stop and talk to each other. During breaks we'd hike up the hill and talk to each other. I really liked her.

She was different.

One day during gym class, I decided to break my rule of taking PE seriously. Instead of sprinting ahead of everyone I chose to hang back with her. She was taken aback.

"Hi" she said as I sat next to her.

Explanation? PE isn't necessary for seniors unless you're getting a sports scholarship or are a paranoid nerd like myself who is training for the zombie apocalypse or training to run away from the enemy, and so we were put in classes with younger students, so I was in Mary's class. She didn't really try though, and that kind of annoyed me because I knew that she knew that the likeliness of an apocalypse was very likely.

But then again, she didn't really need to work out. She was pretty fit and-

"Hi" I said grabbing my neck.

Mary bit into her lip and smiled "You're missing out"

I laughed "I'll work it off after school at the gym"

"Oh."

"What?" I asked as she looked away, blushing.

"Well, I was wondering whether you'd like to come over to my house. I've got all of the Lord Of The Rings movies." She stared at the ground.

I smiled "You do realise that each movie is like 2 hours or more!"

"I know"

"Are you suggesting a marathon?"

"That's like suicide"

"I'm up for it"

She smiled and punched me lightly "Go and run. Have fun"

"You should participate" I said standing up and offering my hand to her. Instead of taking it she shut her eyes and leaned back on the bleachers.

"Nahh." she muttered.

I  bent down quickly and kissed her on her cheek. Her eyes flew open and she pushed me off softly "Run." She said laughing "Go now."

I reluctantly left her side and began to jog after  everyone else.

After over lapping half of the class, my coach came to talk to me.

"Twinge" he said clapping me on the back "You're a good athlete."

I shrugged "Thanks, Coach"

He smiled "Yeah, ever thought of joining any teams".

"I'm busy,Coach, but I'm faltered"  I said stepping back. I wanted to keep moving.

He stepped closer to me "Busy with what?"

I stared at the ground, drumming my thighs with my fingers "I'm graduating this year, Coach. I need to study not run in circles".

"Scholarship."

"I've already received several acceptances. And I don't think that being athletic will help much with writing." I smiled at him and turned around.

"Writing?"

I stopped walking and I nodded.

"A dyslexic writer?" he said laughing.

I looked down at the ground, anger burning through me "Yes. I'm also majoring in Science." I turned around "and minoring in History and Art"

He stared at me.
