After my run in with Keith I tried to go back to normal. I kept telling people that I had gone for a walk and got lost in the woods. Nobody really seemed to care, so I went on.I saw his trial on the t.v, he got convicted of manslaughter and was sentenced to five years in a state penitentiary. He never called me. I used to keep my phone always on me just in case, that one day I would get a call from him.
I just continued with school and graduated. If my friends knew I was hung up over a fugitive, they would probably kill me. I went on and got accepted to Pepperdine and have been there, studying creative writing ever since. I soon began to forget little things about him. Of course I didn't know him, the only thing I could hold on to was him; his name.
"So if the publics vote doesn't count, then why do we vote?" My professor stated from the from of the amphitheater. A few kids raised their hands and answered. I don't remember. US history kind of slips through my fingers. Before I could blink the class was over and I was out of the class and back in my dorm room. I plopped down on my bed and closed my eyes, putting in my head phones and drowned myself in music. I heard the door open and Crystal ran and jumped on my bed. I shot up and fell off my bed. We both cackled like little kids and rolled around on the floor clutching our bellies from laughing so much. My phone let out its shrill ring and I froze. Did he finally call? Crystal noticed my immediate stop and sat up on her knees. I got up slowly and reached for my phone. Unknown number it read. I slid it open and answered.
"Hello?"
"Hello, is this Mae Carter?" A sweet female voice asked.
"Yes that's me." I responded nervously.
"This is the Monte Ray State Penitentiary. There is a young man that wanted to call you." She said. "Keith Summers?"
"Oh." I sighed.
"Would you like to complete the request?"
"Yes. Thank you." I heard the line switch.
"Mae?" His voice said.
"Keith?" I said more surprised than I thought I would be. Crystal was shooting me a strange look and scooted closer to me to hear the conversation. "How are you?"
"I am good... I'm getting parole, and I wanted... Well, I was wondering... If you, well... If you might come and get me?" He said slowly.
"Of course... When?"
"Tomorrow, 3:30?" My breath caught in my throat. It was a 6 hour drive to Monte Ray, there was no way I could make that.
"Um... I can try, I'm at Pepperdine." I said chuckling nervously. He inhaled sharply.
"You can be late. I don't care, I just... I would like you to pick me up."
"Okay. I will be there."
"Thank you so much Mae..." I bit my lip.
"Your welcome. Bye." We both hung up and I set my phone down. Crystal was still giving me an odd look. "Cryssi, we are going on a road trip. Pack your bags."

We had been on the road for almost an hour, both me and Crystal dead silent."So. What are we doing?" She asked breaking the silence.
"Rescuing a friend." I said simply.
"Could you possibly be more specific?"
