I can remember when Alec and I met. We met in my special secret place. When I first became a dog… I found Alec. He was adorable. I can remember seeing him with a long face. His parents made him move. He read on his porch swing everyday for an hour and I would sit in my isolated woods just staring. I was interested in how this young person wasn’t a wolf. I watched him for years. I didn’t understand why he never changed.
Lea taught me everything. She didn’t turn me though. My best friend Jay did. He didn’t mean to, we were eight and were goofing off. We had a poke war and I wouldn’t stop. He got angry and changed in front of my immature eyes. I was stunned. The way his bones changed, it was so quick and yet it seemed like an eternity. His feet spread apart and became bony. His hands looked as if they were double jointed. His face and head twitched. His nose became a muzzle, his ears became pointed. His shoulders bulged and his spine became more visible. The large wolf that was standing in front of me had Jay’s brown eyes. The wolf lunged at me. I was pinned underneath the gray wolf, in the hard wet earth. I struggled, but soon the pain numbed me. The wolf’s nose was wet and cold on my skin. The wind blew and I could smell my blood. I remember staring up at the gray sky. The sun was hidden beneath the clouds.
Out of no where there was a ferocious growl. I turned my head with the little energy I had left and saw a sandy colored wolf. The sandy wolf saw me. We locked eyes for just one moment, the wolf had emerald green eyes. The sandy wolf disconnected our eye contact and lunged at Jay. The noises that could be heard terrified me. Their jaws were snapping and after a short moment one of the wolves made a horrible screech.
The next thing I remember is being in a wooden house, I was on a blue couch. It was really soft. There was a wooden fireplace, a few chairs that were blue and maroon. The house smelled like cedar. My vision came out of it’s blurriness and I saw a woman. She had blonde hair, with bright green eyes.
“Who are you? Where am I?” I asked.
“I’m Lea, you’re at my temporary home.”
“What am I doing here? I should be with Jay.”
“I’m afraid Isabella, that you won’t be seeing Jay for a little while. I need to explain this to you. Jay bit you as a wolf. It is expected that you will turn into a wolf.”
“I don’t understand. I have a family.”
“I know, you can stay with them if you want to take that risk, but I advice you to stay with me until you get used to everything.”
“Okay.”
We staged my death the next day. I could stop my heart for a few moments and not die. It amazed me. Lea told me to go home and get ready. The plan was me jumping from my window, which was in the attic. I did just what she told me to, my parents heard a boom and came running out. My bones were in pain, and they were broken. By the time my parents called the hospital I’d stopped my heart and my bones were healing. Lea staged being a doctor and took me away. I never got to tell my parents goodbye.
I kept my eyes on them until they moved away. That’s when Alec moved in.
