The day that I’d met Alec and made him walk through the forest one thousand paces, Lea was watching me. She yelled at me when I got back to the cabin.

“What the hell were you thinking Isabella!? No I’ll tell you what you were thinking, you weren’t thinking!”

Lea kept ranting about how irresponsible I was. I sat there and pretended to listen but I was really more focused on the boy I had just “met”. I’d never met anyone who was my age who didn’t turn into a wolf. He fascinated me in so many aspects. I wanted to talk to him, I wanted to know what it was like just strictly being a human.

“I like him.” it slipped out.

“What?” a shocked Lea said.

“I like that boy.”

“You can’t possibly like that boy. He’s not like you Isabella!”

“Yes well I’m not like him either.”

“Isabella you know what your future is.”

“Well Lea what if I don’t want that future!?”

“That doesn’t matter.”

“This is my life.’

“Your life is going to be living as the omega.”

“I don’t want that.” I said under my breath.

“Excuse me!?”

I didn’t look at Lea for a moment, but then decided to “I don’t want to be the omega! I want to be a normal person! My feelings count and you can not control it nor will I let you control it.”

I started shaking.

“Isabella, you need to calm down.”

A growl from the bottom of my throat came up and out. My head started twitching back and forth, my fingers cramped together and my feet spread out.

“AHHHHHHHHHH” I yelled.

Then everything changed. I whipped my head at Lea and lunged. Lea immediately turned into her sandy colored coat. She growled at me, and stood on her hind legs.

As wolves we can’t communicate with words, we talk through our minds. We usually show pictures to each other, but it’s possible that we use telepathy. It’s difficult trying to start it, but once you do it gets simpler.

“STOP” Lea commanded.

I halted partially but said back “NO YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CONTROL MY LIFE.”

“THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE. WHY CAN’T YOU GET THAT THROUGH THAT MIND OF YOURS?”

“BECAUSE I HAVE TWO”

I “said’ running out of her door. I ran to my special field. It was dark and cool. It wasn’t cold enough for me to go human but I was still too angry to become human. I flopped down, in the grass on my back and twisted. I loved the smell of grass on my fur in the summer. I stared up at the sky ,it looked funny through my wolf eyes. I couldn’t see like I could when I was a human. I saw the white dots in the black sky, but they weren’t glimmering.

I was a special type of wolf. I was a wolf who like Lea could remember most human memories, the lower status wolves couldn’t remember as much detail of human memories as Lea and I could. I liked being able to remember my memories, but I didn’t like how some of our wolves read my mind.

I became pretty calm and found myself lying in the field, naked. I was cold. I didn’t want to go back to Lea, not right then anyway so I ran to the only place I knew someone was there.
