I felt so comfortable with this boy, Alec. I exposed my secret pretty fast.
“What?” he asked after I had told him.
“I’m a wolf.”
“How is that even possible?”
“That’s another secret…”
“No, I need to know now, Bella Ly.”
“I got bitten by one of my friends when I was younger. That’s why I had to fake my own death. Humans aren’t supposed to know about us.”
“So why did you tell me?”
“ Because you’re the only friend that I have, and I trust you. You smell different then most humans that I have met.”
“You can smell how trustworthy I am?”
“Not really, but everyone who I knew but ended up not being trustworthy had the same distinct smell. You don’t have it at all.”
“That’s really interesting.”
“I thought so.” I said. “Your turn.”
“Um… I don’t know really. I have a pretty bland life. I read a lot as you know.”
“Why did you move here in the middle of no where.”
“My parents thought my friends were bad influences. They got into crack, and weed, and into liquor cabinets. I never took anything, but my parents didn’t believe me. When we moved into the middle of no where they didn’t seem to care what I did. I think they may be getting a divorce soon.”
“Why?”
“Well because the whole atmosphere of what our home isn’t what it used to be. Everyone seems more tensed up, you know?”
“I suppose.”
“Your turn.” Alec said.
“My pack leader’s name is Lea. She’s like my mother, but since I knew my mother I really can’t say stuff like that.”
“Have you found your parents?”
“I’ve tried. When they left I ran after their truck I hadn’t been a wolf that long so I really wasn’t able to keep up.”
“I’m sorry.”
“No it’s okay. It made me grow stronger. You’re turn.”
“As you know my parents used to abuse me,” he took a long breath. “They used to smack me and stick me in a closet. I’m very skittish. I still am but Lisa, and Matt have helped me over come everything. They’re young, and they wanted a kid, just not one that was as old as I was. They care about me though.”
The way that Alec talked about his guardians made me feel like they were his Lea. “Do you ever fight with them?”
“Not really, we have play arguments but nothing very serious. My birth parents and I used to fight a lot though. They left me on a door step after they drugged me. I was left in a house with a bunch of other children at the age of ten. Then Lisa and Matt came I wasn’t there that long, it felt like I was there for years instead of months. I had a best friend who was like a brother to me. One day he just abruptly left…”
