Chapter 3

Chapter 3 (Darrin's POV)

I smiled absentmindedly running my hands through Krystal’s silky hair. I had managed what I wanted, ever since she found out I was learning Dark magic she had stopped being comfortable around me and tried to avoid me. Figuring she wouldn’t want to marry me anymore I had asked her father for her hand in marriage which he of course accepted. Anyone would, well accept her brother. I was secretly glad her brother left to Fernstone but I wasn't going to tell her that. I was going to go to Fernstone so I used it as something to wipe her remaining hatred for me away. If I let her see him just this once then she would be happier.

Her brother had never approved of my family knowing that my father was a sorcerer and said that if I ever became one he would do everything in his power to keep Krystal away from me but I wasn’t going to let that happen. She was mine. I had fallen for her when I was four and decided that I was going to marry her. She always had a smile on her face and tried to help everyone which I thought was foolish. Her family and mine were tied together. Hers was just below royalty and anyone from Silverton was considered higher ranking than from other countries, Silverton being the smallest of all of them but our country held the most resources and power. One of our soldiers could take out twenty normal soldiers. Her family was also the most respected noble family here so she was definitely within my grasp.

I remembered watching her running through the garden to get her ball that had gone too far, her white blonde hair moving in the wind. Her laughter always made me smile.  She attended all of the parties so I knew her quite well and her father encouraged her to socialize with me. He and my father had already figured that we would probably get married since she was the only person I paid attention to. Every time she saw me she would always wave to me and ask me to join her and her cautious brother. She started attracting the attention of the other kids around our age when she was six and I tricked her into agreeing to marry me. I threatened to kill anyone who even looked at her too much not wanting to lose her.

I remembered her tears when her mother died, that was the first night she spent in my arms. I couldn’t stand it when she cried. I noticed her soft breathing and realized she was asleep. Lifting her in my arms I stared down at her, and carefully made my way back to the palace not wanting to wake her.

I had a meeting to get to so I set her down on my bed and kissed her softly on the lips as I slipped the proposal ring on her finger that I had given to her when we were six. It still fit her small fingers; originally it would only fit loosely on her thumb. I smiled and closed the door gently. Assigning guards to guard the entrance and the base of the window I made my way to the council room.

I knew I was late so I slipped in as quietly as possible but my father noticed, “So nice of you to join us Darrin.” He said his voice echoing through the room I rolled my eyes not caring. I would be late again if it meant spending time with Krystal.

“Hello father”, I stated my voice sounding emotionless even to me. Then again the only time it didn’t was around Krystal I took my seat next to my father. My younger brother Derrick sat on the other end tugging at his tight garments. He never liked the formal garb of the court and always pointed out to me that when I became king I was going to have to deal with it for the rest of my life while he can skip the boring meetings.

I nodded my head towards Prince Kiad. I owed him for picking up Krystal. If he hadn’t I would still be out looking for her, I still would have found her eventually because I had a tracking spell on her but she would have gotten further. He looked at me with curiosity as if wondering how things went. I didn’t owe him that much I decided and turned towards the council. “I am bringing Krystal with me when I go to Fernstone.” I announced which led to a bunch of the old members disagreeing and giving me those are you crazy looks?
