Rose's POV"I don't know, Rose. Sounds awful risky to me," Austin murmurs, his hands twitching nervously.
"We both know that they're going to execute me no matter what. If I can get my bending back, I can force them to see I'm on their side," I reply excitedly.
"Even you can't defeat a whole army by yourself."
I grin. "I haven't gotten to the good part yet."
I point to my ankle, revealing an intricate mark swirled around it like a bracelet of some sort, but tattooed to my skin instead.
Austin's eyes widen. "What is that?"
"I don't really know. It unlocks a new type of bending. Whatever they did to me in the Fire Nation stripped away my old DNA and placed a new one. It's weird. I've never tried it, but I know exactly what it does," I explain.
Austin's eyes become wide with curiosity and amazement. "Do tell!"
I explain these three abilities brought my shadow bending:
Shapeshifting: The ability to change physical form at will or someone else for a limited period of time.
Shadow Manipulation: To control shadows by making them into large, solid masses.
Enhanced Senses: Each sense is increased considerably. (Smell, sight, touch, hearing).
"The problem is, I don't know how long the shapeshifting lasts. We're going to have to take a chance. I'll shapeshift you into me for the trial as I am disguised by whoever meets me here to pick me up. That way I'll be free and it'll be impossible for them to execute me," I say.
He wrinkles his nose. "Won't that be weird? You know, being a girl for a couple hours?"
"Just make sure you don't have to go to the bathroom before then."
"What if they execute me?"
"I'll be seen by then. They'll know you're a fake. I'll persuade them to let us both in the military."
"Sounds like a plan!"
The next week consists of grueling waiting and pretending to ingest the pill that takes away my bending. As the days pass by, I feel myself becoming stronger, stronger than I've ever felt before. Sometimes my ankle flares up with a searing pain, the design glowing a deep purple. I cherish the feeling.
One week later...
"Rosemonde, please report into the front of the building. You have a visitor."
I give a curt nod to Austin with a smirk. His hands twitch excitedly as he rushes into his spot down the long corridors.
When I come up to the front, I find Gwen with two other soldiers waiting for me. She offers a bitter smile. I smile back in a friendly way, because I know what's coming for her.
"Ready to go?" She asks.
"Not yet. I need to get something out of my cell," I reply.
"Okay. Just hurry up."
I sniffle, giving the best "crazy and lonely girl" look I can muster. "C- can you go with me?"
Gwen gives an exasperated sigh, rolling her eyes. "You two wait here."
It's hard to keep in my devious smile. We walk down the halls, the place getting darker and more ominous with every step. I feel Gwen become uneasy.
