Love In A Briefcase- Chapter 15
Edited.
The weeks following the trial were simply great. Alejandro had been so sweet; bringing her coffee when she felt she could pass out from exhaustion, sending her flowers at least twice a week, and other little things that could instantly put a smile on her face and brighten up her day. They shared countless lascivious looks during their time spent together or whenever they bumped into each other in the building. They also shared numerous kisses; some passionate and lustful and others tender and meaningful. Alejandro actually enjoyed taking her off guard whenever they were alone. After several minutes when he would have taken her breath away, he would sneak off with that impish look in his eyes, leaving her all hot and bothered.
But it was an eye for an eye. Whenever they would have dinner together at a restaurant, Jade made sure to look at him seductively and would 'accidentally' touch him wherever she could. She could not help but laugh to herself as she remembered the time when he had brought her to one of his favourite French restaurants and she had suddenly decided to play some footsie under the table. He had been giving their order to the waiter when she had slowly brought her own foot up his leg, taking her time to stroke the top of his thighs. He was suddenly frozen in place and a shiver had run up his spine. He had looked at her startled and she had smiled at him and had bitten her lower lip temptingly.
The poor man!
His face had been hilarious!
Alejandro; the man who had been nothing but sweet to her.
The man who was made for her.
The man she loved.
Love? Did she love him?
She spent all her time with him and when they were not together, all she thought about was him, who he was with, where he was and what he was doing.
Suddenly she had an epiphany.
She loved him! She loved him with all her heart and she could not wait to tell him.
Thrilled beyond belief, she immediately opened her office door and knocked on Alejandro's door. When she received no answer, she opened it to find it empty and realised that Alejandro had left work early on that day to go see his mother at the hospital.
This was the reason why he had left her on her own on that day when they had made love in her apartment and he had showed up on her doorstep all wet from the rain and crying. He had just learned that his mother was suffering from thyroid cancer and fortunately it had been found in the early stages and was therefore curable. Alejandro had been devastated when he had found out and had been visiting his mother every two days or so since.
Jade hurriedly returned to her office, took her bag and left immediately afterwards. She had to tell Alejandro that she loved him. And she would tell him right now. She exited the building and rushed to her car. She put her phone in the phone holder, looked for Alejandro's name in her contacts and pressed on call. She turned on the engine and pulled out of the parking lot.
"Hello, Jade?" Alejandro's husky voice came from the car speaker. His voice caused those cliché butterflies to flutter in her stomach.
"Hi, Alejandro," She kept her eyes on the road as she talked. "Where are you?"
"I'm at the hospital, visiting my mum," he answered, "And you?"
"I'm driving at the moment."
"You're on the phone while driving?' He asked anxiously.
"Yeah, I don't usually do that but I need to tell you something urgently."
"Jade, whatever it is, I'm sure that it can wait. Put that phone down and focus on the road."
"I'm not taking my eyes off the road, I swear. I just want to tell you that I-"
Unfortunately, Alejandro did not have the chance to hear the end of the sentence. The only thing that he heard was a loud and horrendous crash and the sound of people screaming on the other side of the line.
