Love In a Briefcase- Chapter 16

Edited.

It is true that you only know that you love someone when you have to let her go. For a moment, Alejandro stood frozen on the spot with his phone stuck to his ear. Different scenarios played in his head, each darker than the other. His thoughts were going in all directions. He simply did not know what to do.

Finally realizing what had just happened, he immediately put his phone in his pocket and rushed towards the exit doors of the hospital. Once outside, he ran across the parking lot to reach his car, instantly put his key in the ignition, and put the car in reverse to get out of the hospital parking lot and made his way back to the law firm.

He did not know how many traffic rules he had broken. He was even surprised that a police car had not already pulled up alongside him. But he did not care. The only thing he cared about was to see Jade; to take her in his arms and tell her that everything would be okay. He only hoped that she was alright. But he had heard the crash and the screams. Everything kept echoing in his mind. What if she was suffering from major injuries? Or worst, what if she was already dead? No he should not think like that. He should have hope. Jade was okay. She would be alright. But what if she would not?

Tears blurred his vision at the possibility of Jade not being okay. He did not even get the chance to tell her that he loved her; that he loved her desperately. That he could do anything to just see her gorgeous eyes light up and to see a smile on her face. That he could not live without her.

His car zoomed past other vehicles. Sometime on the road, he noticed that the traffic was becoming denser and then it finally stopped moving all together. He just knew that he was close to where the accident had occurred. Without hesitation, he turned off the engine and got out of his car. He hurried between cars, the only thing on his mind being to see Jade. When he saw the scene of utter desolation, he knew that he had arrived.

Two cars had been totally crushed and blood could be seen everywhere. People stood watching the scene and talking to themselves as the paramedics tried to get the victims of the accident out of the vehicles. But he could not see Jade anywhere. He tried to go see who was inside the cars but a policeman stopped him.
"Excuse me sir, but you cannot come near those cars," He said.

"You don't understand, my girlfriend was in this accident!" He cried out in anger. He knew that it was not the policeman fault, but he could not contain his rage. Immediately, the policeman let him pass through.

Though he was out of breath, he rushed towards one of the paramedics who was standing next to the ambulance and asked him about the victims.

"There were two women in one vehicle and a man in another," The bald man said.

Two women and one man? He knew for a fact that Jade had been alone in her car. So, where was she? Could there have been another accident somewhere else?

"Alejandro?" A sweet voice came from behind him. No it could not be! A myriad of emotions overwhelmed him as he thought of the chance that Jade had not been in the accident.

He turned around and there she was. What he did next surprised them both. In two strides, he was in front of her and before she could say anything, he kissed her. He kissed her tenderly and lovingly, his wonderful scent intoxicating her. Those luscious lips he thought he would never get the chance to kiss ever again. He caressed her cheeks with his thumb and was surprised when a drop of water landed on it. He pulled away slowly and was instantly worried when he saw tears crawling down her face.

"Are you okay?" He asked while looking for injuries. When he did not find any, he looked at her with confusion in his eyes.

"Yes, I am," she said.

"Then, why are you crying?" He could not help but to feel sad when he saw her crying.

"It's just that I thought I had lost you," the silent tears had now turned into sobs. He embraced her as she cried in his shoulder.

"I should be the one telling you that. I was so scared, Jade. Don't do that ever again!"

"How can you be here, Jade? I heard the crash and I heard the screams," he said with a tremor in his voice as he relived the awful memory. She removed her head from his shoulder and told him,

"The two cars in front of me crashed against each other. Oh, Alejandro, there was so much blood!"

"I know, I saw the scene." He looked into her eyes, "I'm just glad that you're okay."

She looked at him with an emotion which he could not decipher.

"Alejandro, I love you." He could not believe it! Was he dreaming? No, he certainly was not.

She loved him!

And he loved her too!

"Still waiting here," Snapping out of his thoughts, he looked at her and realized that he had not answered her.

"I love you too, Jade" He said.

"You do?" She asked with unmistaken hope in her voice.

"I do," He replied while laughing at her.

"Well, that's grea-," She did not get the chance to finish as he put his lips on hers and gave her a feverish and mind-blowing kiss.
