DALZELL HOUSE, LANARKSHIRE, SCOTLAND

This house is a mansion in Lanarkshire dating back to around the 13th century. The Dalzell Earls of Carnforth  originally had its possession until the 17th century where the Earl, Robert, was found guilty of treason and sentenced to death. But his sentence was commuted and was instead stripped of rank and lands, and fined 100,000 merks. The mansion was then passed down to his son.

Although the mansion is private, the land around it is open to the public,  from where they can experience the ghosts of the green, grey, and white lady, that are said to wander around the house.

The Green lady is most commonly found in the south wing and often when spotted,  people smell a sweet scented perfume.

The Grey Lady is mainly seen in the West Wing of the house. People think she is the ghost of one of the nurses from WW1 when the house was used as a hospital.

The White Lady has been seen all over the mansion and appears unexpectedly. There is a tale that she was a maidservant who became pregnant, and was overcome with despairs to then throw herself to her death from the battlements. Others say that she was bricked up within the walls of the building.
