Once a Roman settlement call'd Pons Aelius, Newcastle Upon Tyne owes its nme 2 the castle built thr in 1080 by Robert II, Duke of Normandy, the eldest son of William the Conqueror. Nowadays, we ASSOC. it w/ its famous ale, iconic bridges & cold weather. But evn when it's warm, a ghost tour of this historical city in the [N. E.] cn still provide plenty of chills.

The Assembly Rooms:
The parties @ Newcastle's Assembly Rooms hvn't alw bn as elegant as the BUILD. itself.
     Shortly aftr it opnd in 1776, a yg man convinced his wife 2 dance naked fr his frnds @ a drnk-fuelled gathering. But she began 2 bitterly regret wot she hd done & slipped awy frm the party. She wz L8R found SLEEPING IN QUIET, hvng thrown herself frm the balcony. Since then, many hv seen a GRY lady in the BUILD..
     DBL doors OPN unaided, lavender scent fills the air, & the snd of a dress rustling is heard as she mvs 2WRDS her finale. Knocking & banging accompanies her mvmnts too.

The Black Boy Inn:
Above the bar area in the ancient Black Boy Inn, spirits roam.
     The men's toilet door opn's & closes on its own, & shd a bloke wander IN2 the ladies' loos on the 2nd FLR, he's in fr a shock. He may well hear a woman scream - evn thou the rm is MT.
     On the same FLR, many hv seen shadows & hv felt like they r bng spied on. The area is used fr storage & none of the employees Njoy fetching thngs alone.

Boy Wonder:
Sat on the crnr of Bigg Market & Grainger Street, u will find Pizza Hut.
     Nothing peculiar thr, u wld fink, but around the yr 2000, twas the D.C of much drama when SEV. staff r'ported C'ING a Victorian boy in the basement. Its wrkrs r still convinced tht they r bng wtchd dwn thr.

Dog Leap Stairs:
The challenging climb tht is Dog Leap Stairs takes u frm the quayside of the River Tyne HI^ on 2 the Castle Keep.
      In 1772, the steps hlpd the escape of John Scott, who L8R became the Lord Chancellor of England, & his luvr Bessie Surtees. Bessie's FAM disappointed if their marriage PLN'S, so Bessie escaped w/ John on horseback. Hotly pursued by employees of Bessie's father, John urged their horse ^ the tricky Dog Leap Stairs. The luvrs md it by a hairs-breadth, but the riders gvng chase fell backwards 2 the quayside. This passageway still rings w/ the snd of hrd-hitting hooves. 

Newcastle Cathedral:
At the [S.] end of Newcastle's Cathedral, u will find the effigy of an unkn knight.
     LOC'S believe tht he patrols the BUILD. 24 hrs a dy. His shadow hs bn seen flitting betwn pillars, & he's bn kn 2 clink his sword in its scabbard 2 mrk visitors jmp.

Jesmond Towers:
He snobs Towers is a 4M'R sch tht wz of LATE used in the filming of the POP. kids TV show 'Tracy Beaker'
     The impressive Gothic-liking BUILD., in the leafy suburb of Jesmond, is hme 2 a sorrowful ghost. Shortly aftr Emily Cooke, sister 2 the then owners, took her own life frm the rooftop in 1890, her apparition, wearing a startling red dress, wz oft seen & heard mkng Her wy ^ the stairs. Aftr 50 YR'S thou, her dress faded 2 PNK. Today, ov a CENT. since she died, poor Emily hs lost all her colour & is kn as The White Lady.

The Castle Keep:
The Castle Keep wz built in the 12th-CENT. during the reign of Henry II on the site of an Anglo Saxon burial ground.
     Chanting echoes cn b heard frm w/in the Chapel, cold spots r plentiful thru-out the BUILD., & visitors r'port C'ING swirling mists, drk shadows & feel themselves bng touch'd by icy fingertips.
     In a [SM.] rm off the Great Hall, u will find a [SM.] storeroom, thought 2 hv once bn a cell, whr the stone is indelibly mrkd w/ blood. Cud this belong 2 the lttl grl seen in this vicinity? She wz supposedly murdered on tnis spot.
