SALISBURY PLAIN
nr. Prospect Clump
Whilst driving across The Ranges yesterday, I was told of an incident at this small building on the right of the picture. There were several of these buildings dotted around the area. They were once used for aviation photography, and the photographer would be brought out in the evening and left to do his work, and then collected by Land Rover at the end of his shift.
One night a man was left here as usual, but when the Land Rover came to collect him, the driver opened the door of the building to find the photographer armed with a pair of flare guns, totally petrified. After this event, photographers were always sent in pairs and left with a vehicle.
There were rumours about what the man had seen, something of a paranormal nature but we don't know what! The building is situated on an old coaching road from Salisbury to Devizes. It stands yards from the old signpost where The Drummer Boy ghost appeared to his murderer, and also next to Prospect Clump where an old farm used to stand until 1899, and which was a halt for coffins en route to burial. With so many stories of ghostly Hell Hounds and highwayman, on the plain, I'm intrigued to know what he saw.
