"Are you ready?" My mother asked me, opening my bedroom door slightly. Taking another look in the mirror at my reflection, I nodded my head. Tonight was the fight, and Edward and I wouldn't know how it ended until we'd return home late. My mother was oblivious to everything we planned, just thinking this was Edward's way of getting to know his love's parent's better, and even though I thought that was also part of his plan, I couldn't hide my nervous expression.

Entering my room further, my mother came to stand by me. I observed our reflections a little bit more; I looked a lot like her, only it was evident I was not normal. Even with the brown eye contacts in, my appearance makes it look like I stepped out of a fairy tale.
"I miss those brown eyes." My mother sighed, turning to face me so she could cup my face in her hands. We were around the same height so she didn't have to pull me down far to leave a kiss on my forehead. "We're going to have to figure out a way for you to come visit me more." She smiled once she let go, walking to my door.

"Are you coming?" She asked, turning to face me once again. Swallowing my fear, I nodded my head and followed her downstairs. Charlie was at work, and as planned, he would be heading to the reservation afterwards, so I knew he'd be safe. Edward arrived shortly after, and I could tell James was getting closer by the eagerness in Edward as he led us outside. He seemed more alert, focused.

As I buckled up in the passenger seat, Edward was already in the car and driving off. He turned on the radio to a station I wasn't paying attention to, and began speaking very lowly so only I could hear.
"We need to hurry, I could hear James thoughts when I pulled up to your house, which means he's close. I'm heading to the field we picked to trap them, then I'll loop around and take us to Seattle. I'm only going there first in case James is following us, if he still is, Alice will see it and they'll be ready." Nodding my head slightly, I looked out the windshield, feeling more fear course through my body.

Just as Edward had planned, he parked the car on the outskirts of trees, and turned the ignition off before turning to face me. "I'll be right back," he spoke louder, indicating he was talking to both me and my mother, "Emmett left his jacket in a baseball clearing not far from here, I promised I'd grab it for him." Edward was telling a lie because of my mother's presence. Afraid of my voice, I just nodded my head again.
"Okay honey, be safe." Renee told him, reaching over to grab my hand. Edward left just then, and I wanted to follow him; my mother's hand in mine stopped me from moving, though.

"Bella what's wrong, dear?" She asked me suddenly when Edward disappeared through the trees. Turning to face her, I knew I couldn't lie. "There's danger, mom. Edward just left to see his family, but he'll be back in a couple of minutes, then we'll be going to Seattle."
"What kind of danger?"
"The kind of danger that can hurt both of us at once, but we'll be safe." I forced a smile to try and ease my words, but my mother seemed to have not caught it. Instead, her eyes darted somewhere behind me, and I watched as her pupils dilated in fear. "Mom?" I asked, the smile quickly disappearing as I turned to where her gaze was directed.

My breathing stopped entirely as I saw James standing in front of the car, looking at Renee with thirst evident in his glowing red eyes. I didn't need Edward's telepathy to know what he was thinking. Without another thought, I let go of my mothers hand and a growl ripped through my throat, I glared my eyes at him in anger.
"Stay here." I demanded my mother. When she tried refusing, I whipped my head in her direction.
"Mom, do as I say." My voice was very dominating, and very scary as she remained still. Reaching for the door-handle, I opened the car door and was outside, standing in front of James in less than a second.

"You brought a snack?" he growled, looking in the car once more. My posture shifted to a crouch, baring my teeth at James as another growl ripped out of my throat. "What do you want." I spit at him, ready to rip his head off by myself if he tried anything. "You know what I want." He smiled at me, a sick masochistic smile that made my stomach turn.
"Give it up, James. Edward will be back any second and I'm sure he heard you, so his family will be here as well." James shook his head and clicked his tongue, looking at me with menacing eyes.

"Unfortunately, I already got to Edward before he got to his family, I'm sure he's lying on the forest ground somewhere, in pieces." My posture shifted slightly and I felt a dryness in my throat, causing me to choke out a dry sob. He's lying, I told myself, Edward is alive.

Just then, before I could fathom what had happened, James disappeared. Everything felt as if it was put in slow-motion, my mother's screams were heard then, and when I turned to face the car, the door was wide open and she was gone.

Sorry for cliffhangers, also for shitty short chapters. Writer's block hit me hard with this chapter, but next chapter should be better!
