"Edward?" I called out, startling him. He looked up confused and met my eyes, then set his book down before showing up in front of my face in less then a second. "Bella." He smiled, taking my hand and leading me back to the blanket that was laid down in the grass, I noticed a few candles were lit beside the blanket, giving the area a soft glow of light.
"I didn't expect to see you again anytime soon." Edward smiled, taking a seat on the blanket, patting down the blanket in front of him so I could sit down. "Well you are in my meadow, so you'd have to cross me eventually." I smiled back at him, sitting down. Everything about Edward caused butterflies to erupt in my stomach, the way his eyes crinkled up when he smiled a perfect set of white teeth, the soft dimple that formed on one side of his cheek, his laugh was music to my ears, and his voice melted my un-beating heart.
"Your meadow?" Edward asked, breaking me from my admiration. "Well, yeah. I did find this place, so I claim it mine." I couldn't stop smiling when I was with him, it made me feel good. "Unfortunately, this meadow belongs to me. I found it many years back, surely before even your parents were born." I looked down at the flame on the candle that flickered against the wind. "So you aren't new to Forks, then?" I questioned, plucking a purple flower from the ground and twisting the stem in between my fingertips.
"Nope, my family and I.. We move around a lot, we tend to find ourselves back in Forks mostly because this is where we can be open with what we are, and be around the public without being exposed. It's my favorite place." I could tell from the corner of my eyes that Edward was watching me. "So this isn't my meadow then?" I asked, acting like I was hurt as I pressed my hand against my chest. Edward laughed at my act, taking my hand in his before speaking, "It can be our meadow." I smiled at him once again and looked down at our hands that were still closed around each other, almost as if they were made for each other.
Edward looked down at our hands and awkwardly let go, moving his hand away from mine. Trying to disguise the hurt that was apparent on my face, I changed the subject. "This Side of Paradise?" I asked, picking up the book that laid on the blanket and examined the worn out cover. "It's a good book, have you heard of it?" Edward asked, taking the book from my hands. Shaking my head, he began to explain it.

Time seemed to have passed by quickly because before I knew it, the morning sun reflected off of our skin. Edward and I laid down on the blanket beside each other, examining each other and speaking about everything. Looking up to the sky, I admired the colors. "That's so strange." Edward mumbled softly to himself, though he knew I could hear perfectly. Turning my head to face him again, I raised my eyebrows. "Huh?"
"Bella, have I ever told you about the powers I have?"
"Powers?"
"Yes, some certain vampires possess special techniques, it helps them hunt, or fight. For example, my adoptive sister, Alice, can see the future. Her mate, and my adoptive brother, Jasper, can change the mood of a person, to make them calm, happy, relaxed, or sad."
"And what do you have?"
"I am telepathic. I can read minds."
"Then how is that strange?"
"Because, I seem to be reading nothing from you. It's odd, almost like I can only receive FM radio, and you are set to AM."
"Maybe it's just a glitch in my brain." I joked, sitting up and blowing out the nearly melted candles."I should probably go, Charlie will be awake soon and he'd be scared to see I'm not home." I stood up and brushed off the jeans, looking down at Edward who was still watching me. "Can I see you again, later today? You can meet my family." Smiling down, I nodded eagerly. Edward has already told me nearly everything to know about his adoptive family, so to finally put faces to names and meet them personally seemed exciting.
"Meet me back here at around noon?" I asked, as Edward smiled and nodded at me. "I'll see you then." Turning to face the trees, I darted the the entrance of them and glanced back at Edward who stood there, watching me. Smiling back at him, I ran at full speed through the woods to return home.
