This chapter is a bit graphic, you have been warned. Picture of Kyle to your right :)
Recap:
“Leigh, please tell me what’s wrong? It’s so weird seeing you like this. You’re supposed to be the controlled one remember?” he playfully nudged me. I sat up and faced him. He stiffened and brushed his fingers across my cheeks. Salty liquid teased the rim of my lips. I gasped, I was crying.
I dragged my hands across my face removing all evidence of the tears. Kyle sat on the bed and pulled me into him. He kissed my hair, and stuck my face into the crook of his neck. “Tell me everything” he whispered.
*********
I spent half hour doing the one thing my mother and I had agreed we’d never do. I told Kyle everything, I told him about the threats, the beatings, and the recent phone calls. He was a bit shocked when I said my dad was using him to blackmail me. When I finally finished telling the story, my shoulders slumped, and I awaited Kyle’s reaction.
“So he thinks you like me so much that you’d put you and Tina in danger?” he asked. I nodded. And then he did the most unexpected thing; he laughed. My jaw dropped, “What the hell is so funny?” I asked while he laughed. He put a hand up, signaling for me to wait.
I stood there with my arms crossed over my chest as he caught his breath. “I’m not laughing at you; I’m laughing at your dad. Does he think that you’re so dumb; you’d risk you and your mom’s life over a guy you’ve known a week? It’s just funny. What did Tina say when you told her?”
I shifted from foot to foot uncomfortably. Why was it so dumb to care about him, I mean yeah, I’d only known him a week, and Tina would die if she found out I was keeping this from her, but I was really worried about him. My dad was unstable. “I haven’t told Tina yet” I mumbled.
Kyle froze. He turned to me slowly with wild eyes, “A man with a gun who has been stalking you most of your life and leaving constant threats on your phone knows where you live and you haven’t told your mom?” he asked bewildered. I blew out a breath, why did it sound so much worse when he said it.
“Yeah” I said quietly” Kyle’s eyes bulged, “You need to tell your mom right now!” he yelled. I straightened up, “Do you realize he’ll hurt you!” I yelled back. He smirked, “I can take care of myself Leigh” I laughed, “And that’s why it’s so easy for your brother to give you a black eye right?” I asked venomously. He stiffened. In seconds I was pushed roughly against the wall, the light switch stabbing into my back.
“Watch what the hell you say about my family Leigh” he growled at me. I narrowed my eyes, “Get your hands off of me now” I said quietly. He dropped his hands from my shoulders, and stepped back until he was across the room with as much space as possible between us.
He ran his hands through his hair and groaned. I just stood there against the wall. I knew I was wrong for talking about his brother, but I sure as hell wasn’t apologizing. Didn’t he see I was just trying to protect him?
“Leigh” he finally said after minutes of silence, “Just tell your mom, please. She’ll know what do, nothing will happen to me ok?” I shook my head; I wasn’t letting him get hurt because my dad was a sicko. “I can’t let him hurt you Kyle” I said softly.
Kyle quickly closed the distance between us and grabbed my face. He stood in front of me, inches away. “Can you just trust me when I say nothing will happen to me? My dad’s a cop for fuck's sake.” I sighed, “I’m just scared” I muttered.
He brushed his thumb over my lips, “I find it really hot that you care so much about me” he said quietly. He leaned into me, trapping my body in between his and the wall. And for the first time, Kyle kissed me. I wasn’t forcing him and he wasn’t trying to distract me, he was kissing me because he wanted to.
