Fall break had pasted and it was time for school again. Little did I know that their would be something; a sort of surprise waiting for me that day. Second period rolled around, so far it had been a normal day, then a knock at the door surprised everyone in class. In walked out principle Mr. Dainer.

"Mrs. Rose," he said as he walked through the classroom door," Can I see Ms. Jackson for a few minutes please?"

My heart pounded in my chest just like anyone else's would, but I had no reason to be nervous, I hadn't done anything wrong. We walked down the hallway and to his office. When he open the door, there sat a boy, about my age, dark hair, dark eyes, tan skin, and when he stood up...tall. Could it be? I didn't get my hopes up, I just sat down in the chair next to him and listened as Mr. Dainer spoke to the both of us.

"Now Ms. Jackson,"he said," This is Jake. he just moved here and I've chosen you to be his mentor."

After the lecture from Mr. Danier, he sent me and Jake out of his office and on to class. As we walked down the hallway he didn't speak very much, just an okay here and a yeah there. I couldn't stand the silence any longer so I spoke.

" So...I'm Carly if Mr. Dainer didn't tell you, and you're Jake right?"

He finally lifted his head up and looked at me.

"Yea," he said," I live in Dallas. I mean I use to live in Dallas."

"Oh that's cool. You must really miss home...." I paused as I decided not to continue on with my sentence yet I felt as if it was too late.

"Yea I do but I was ready for a move. I just don't know anybody yet...." he said.

"Well, you know me now," I said with a smile, " So that's one person."

A smile draped across his face and my heart melted. After snapping out of my slight daydream we continued walking on to class.

"So, what classes do you have?" I said

He took his folded up schedule from his jacket pocket and handed it to me.

" Here's my schedule but I don't know where any of my classes are." he said

It had to have been a coincidence that all our classes but one was the same. I smiled.

"Well, it looks like you have to deal with me all day," I said sarcastically

"Really?!" he said as his face lit up and he smiled a big smile.

"Yeah," I said, "Just follow me."
