We stayed out late that night and things seemed to grow strange. It all started around 8 o'clock or so, Jake had parked his car under the bridge and we decided to go for a late night walk.  He just walked; hands deep inside his jacket pockets and his head hanging towards the ground, he just walked. I could tell something wasn't right but I let the silence take over.

After a while, I couldn't take the silence any longer.

"Everything okay?" I questioned

He still didn't speak. Everything had been okay up until that point, I couldn't even think of a reason why he would be acting like this. Suddenly his phone rang and he ransacked through his pockets searching for his phone. After retrieving his phone he answered as if it were someone overly important and he had been waiting for their call.

"Hello...?"he said. After a long lecture from the opposite end of the phone, he spoke again ,"...I told you already...I've already said I'm not going to do it..."

That was all that I heard from his conversation as he walked away from me leaving me sitting on the sidewalk waiting  for him to finish. Time slowly went on until he finally returned; closing his phone and throwing it into his pocket as he walked over to me. Without a word or any explanation he yanked at my arm, pulling my shoulder up for me to stand then dragging me down the sidewalk.

"Ow! Let go of me! Jake! What are you doing!? What's going on?!" I screamed.

He released my arm with a sudden drop as I refused to move one more step without a reason.

"Let's Go!" he shouted yet I still stood silent,"I have to get you out of here. Come on!"

I didn't want to say anything yet I knew I needed answers.

"What's going on? Tell me! Jake you're scaring me!" and then i paused and listened to the racing sound of my own heartbeat.

" If you want me to go with you then tell me!......Who was on the phone?!" I said.

He stopped and sighed; this time, his face more scared and worried than angry.

"Carly...," he took a deep breath in,"I swear to you I will let you know what's going on," he said, "We've just got to get out of here. I have to make sure you're safe and then I explain. I promise."

The sincerity in his eyes made the thought of fear disappear from my mind.

"You've just gotta trust me...." he said, "You do trust me... don't you?"

He reached out his hand and I didn't have to even give it a second thought.

I knew in that moment that I did; I trusted him completely.
