"Go! Get out of here."
Moms frantic voice echoed as I came to and my hazy vision cleared. My eyes grew wide as it took in the chaos happening in front of it. The walls around me were engulfed in golden flames.
I doubted whether it was real as I didn't feel any heat radiating from the flames that licked the walls. In fact, I felt almost numb.
A scream pierced through the air and brought me out of my thoughts. I turned my head around to find its source. It was Lissa. Part of the ceiling had collapsed and the debris lay scattered all around her, the concrete barely missing her.
Something warm trickled down my face and dripped on to the scorched floor. It was a liquid tainted red and it took me sometime to enlist it as blood. My blood. I slowly traced my hand along my face and towards my forehead where I felt a sharp pain. I had hit my head somewhere and I was bleeding heavily.
"Zoe!" mom screamed. It looked like she had been calling me for some time. I guess I still wasn't back to my senses completely.
Mom towered over me, her arms raised to her sides, as if shielding me from the heat. Her lips moved yet I couldn't make out what she was saying. Slowly and unsteadily, I got back to my feet. The whole world was shaking and I stumbled backwards. My feet collided with something on the floor and I fell backwards. I looked down to see a limp figure smeared in red.
A scream escaped my mouth as I recognized it as the corpse of my father. His usually blue eyes that twinkled with a mischievous glint now stared back murky and lifeless.
I couldn't stop screaming no matter how badly I willed myself to stop. I felt a tug on my arm and I allowed it to raise me back to my feat once more. Still screaming, I allowed the person pulling my arm to lead me away from my now dead father.
I regained my equilibrium and my grip on my senses. I stopped screaming and looked to see Lissa grip my arm, her face smeared in soot and tug me towards the emergency stairs. I felt the intense heat prickle against my skin.
Tears streamed down my face and my vision became blotched. I started to struggle against Lissa but I had not regained my strength yet.
"No, NO!" I screamed, my eyes trained on mom. "Wait, we have to go back for mom."
A tall figure in a black waist coat and a black top hat that I had failed to recognize earlier swooped in towards mom in a speed that no human should be able to move. His hands moved and something silver glinted as he stabbed mom straight in her gut.
A look of pure horror flashed across my mother's eyes as she went flying into the flames. A shriek escaped my mouth as the man turned toward me. His face was covered in a clack scarf and I felt his gaze bore on me through his sun glasses.
"Run" Lissa urged.
And that's exactly what I did. I ran for my life.
