Chapter 8 : Adjusting

I woke up breathing heavily my shirt clinging onto my back from the sweat. I slowly ran a hand across my face wiping off the beads of sweat from my forehead and got up from my bed scanning the room for my eyes to adjust to the light.

I flinched as I saw two blue eyes staring back at me.

"Kazumiiii!!! Don't scare me like that!" I gasped placing a hand on my chest feeling the loud, fast thumping of my heart.

"You were screaming and tossing around you think that's not freaky? Look, everyone's up now due to your crazy alarm" Kazumi said as she sat back glancing at the other girls who had just woken up and had their eyes all on me. Some stared with disgust others with fear. Some just stood by not knowing what was going on.

As everyone got ready to go to the class I sat there pondering over what had happened last night. The dream still made me feel sick. Did these monsters do something to Lissa? No that's impossible... they said they'd let her go free.

Then again who'd trust these? They'd do anything for the sake of human blood. Speaking of which I was hungry. I had spent most of yesterday not eating anything except the cake which I bought over from home.

Then it clicked me.............

"Urmm...can I ask you guys something?" I turned to kazumi and sheina

They both stared back at me with blank faces.

"Do you...I mean do we also feed on blood??" I asked looking down at the stupid question I just asked, of course they fed on blood they were vampires.

"well... it's hard to say... even I grimaced at the thought of drinking a human blood when I first got here" Kazumi fumbled.

I waited for her to tell me more but she remained silent.

"what about you sheina?" I asked.

" I was already raised in a vampire environment so yes I do feed on blood....for kazumi it was a bit more difficult ..." sheina said placing a hand on kazumis shoulder. Kazumi let out a tiny groan.

"you mean she had to drink blood too..." I asked hoping that my voice wouldn't tremble. I thought kazumi was the same as me and could feel the pain of a human being here since she was obviously raised in a human environment too but she had adapted well before I even got here.

"Listen zoe it's not what you think..." kazumi started as she saw my facial expression change.

"This environment is different form the human world. Once you get here.... You start to awaken the vampire inside of you. I admit I had survived on normal food all my life up to now but... my first day of trying to eat normal food after I got here ...it went horrible. I felt like as if I was eating something from the trash it tasted and smelled so bad... I had no other choice...." Kazumi suddenly burst into tears.

I stared at her apologetically not able to say anything.

"Don't worry Zoe even you will get used to all this vampire thing soon enough.... There is a human canteen there for newbies like you downstairs at the corner" Weis interrupted

"Humans like you can feed from there."

"WEISS?!" Sheina and Kazumi both said at once looking at her as if she had said something forbidden.

"I'm sorry Zoe she didn't mean it. We all know your also a vampire. There's no other reason why you'd be dragged in here...." Kazumi stopped crying and stared at me.

"Yea right. She still has not regained her powers even and todays the third day here. Even we discover our powers from birth but she had no characteristics of a vampire whatsoever. You can't keep hiding the fact that she's just another source of food for the higher ups." Weiss muttered as she made her way out of the dorm.

Kazumi stared at her with anger then looked back at me. She was about to say something but I stopped her.

"it's okay you don't have to pretend ....im at least glad that I'm human." I shut my mouth before I could say and not monsters like them.

"You guys go ahead I'm not going to class today....I don't feel too well. Tell the teacher I'm sick" I said as I rolled up on my bed putting on the covers on my head so that they won't be able to see the tears sliding down my cheeks. I heard them leave and close the door behind them and let out a sniffle.

I missed home I wanted to go back....I wanted to escape from here this place was too scary....

(Kazumi)

I left zoe alone for some time. She was having a harder time than me adjusting here. Even though I didn't want to believe the fact that she was just a human being I couldn't help it at the proofs against my thinking. Me and sheina decided to take her something from the canteen to eat after class .

As we walked off towards the classroom someone stopped us. I looked up to see Steve and instantly backed away before he could attack me.

Sheina quickly took cover behind me and peeked through my shoulders.

Strangely Steve didn't seem to mind the fact I had just bumped onto a royal such as himself.

He looked around to make sure that no one was there

"Where's your friend?" he asked calmly his expression grim.

"She... she's in" I interrupted sheina before she could say anything.

"What do you want with Zoe?" I asked

"You... don't dare ask any questions tell me where she is."

I grimaced. There was no way I trusted these guys. They might do just about anything to Zoe.

"Fine...don't tell me if you don't want. It's not that I care" Steve said walking away.

"Wait..." I stopped him and gave out a sigh. "She's in her dorm she won't be coming to class today. If it's a message pass it on to me I will tell her"

"In her dorm? Why is she skipping classes?" Steve asked. I stared at him with wonder. Why was someone like him acting so interested with zoe all of a suddenWas he going to do something to zoe?? For revenge ?

"oh now that's sad. Guess I can't have my beating on her today..." Steve suddenly turned to me his eyes bright red with fury.

"But I can take it out on her friends."
