12 YEARS LATER

"Hurry up or we'll be late. And I don't want to be late because of you."

I called out as I collected loose strands of red hair and tied it back into a ponytail. I hate it when my hair flew all over my face in class. I looked into the mirror and saw my reflection stare back at me with emerald green eyes magnified behind a pair of black rimmed glasses.

Satisfied that I had gathered all my stray strands of hair, and rechecking my uniform, I left to find Lissa. After closing my door, I crossed the landing to her room. Her door was opened a crack and I smiled to myself as I heard a frustrated cry

I opened her door and the sight that greeted me was so hilarious I couldn't help myself and I burst into a fit of laughter. Lissa was her sitting in front of her mirror, her jet black hair wild behind her back. . Lissa's hair is very straight and she usually has trouble managing it.

She heard me and turned, narrowing her hazel brown eyes and scrunching her face into a scowl, which made me, laugh even harder.

"Sor...sorry, I'll help you out there but...this is seriously funny" I exclaimed bringing out my phone and taking a snapshot.

"What are you doing?" Lissa asked looking confused.

"I wonder how many likes this might get" I said grinning.

"Don't you dare" Lissa shrieked in utter terror and lunged at my phone. She wrestled it out of my hand and hit the delete button.

I laughed and looked at the time. It was getting late so I took her comb and started styling her hair.

Lissa is my best friend and we have been together since we were small. Her parents went missing when she was four and lived with my family. After my parents passed away we have been living together and stuck by each other ever since.

"There" I said admiring my work.

She checked her hair in the mirror which was now neatly tied into a short ponytail with her fringe braided up.

"Thanks." she said running a hand through her hair before checking the time on her wrist watch." Now let's go"

She grabbed my hand and we ran out of the house.

"Let's race. The first one to the gate wins!" she declared as she ran ahead with a childish grin planted on her face before I could state my opinion about it. I shrugged and ran after her.

When I made it to the gate, Lissa was not there. I looked to the left of the road and glimpsed her dash around the corner. I sighed and ran after her. As I took the bend, I slammed hard into someone and fell on my back. I felt something soft land on my tummy and a squeal escaped my lips. It was a black kitten. A black and white kitten with emerald eyes and a black nose. It looked at me, meowed and then jumped off.

I looked at what I had crashed into to find a girl with diamond blond hair sitting up. She wore the uniform to my school. She blinked at me with sapphire blue eyes and smiled. I also smiled and then we burst into a short fit of laughter. I got up and helped the still giggling girl up. She wiped tears from her eyes and shook my hand.

"Sorry" I apologized.

"No don't my bad. I should have looked where I was walking. I was playing with Kira and didn't look at where I was going." She said waving her hand at the black cat that was purring and rubbing against her legs.

"Since we are both sorry, I guess we are cool." I said.

"Guess so" she laughed and bent down to scratch behind Kira's head.

I squatted down.

"My name's Zoe Ayame" I introduced myself.

She looked up from her cat. "Oh. Hi. I'm Kazumi Ayato. Looks like we both go to the same school"

I realized I was losing a race and got up.

"Hey I got to go. " I told Kazumi as I started to run again. "Nice meeting you and hurry or you'll be late." I called back as I glimpsed Lissa ahead.

Lissa and I barely made it before the bell rang.

"I thought you guys would never come" Jennifer said, flipping her pink dyed hair behind her.

Jennifer was one of the prettiest girls in school. She has long hair and a pair of eyes that are the most delicate brown that I have ever seen that looks like it has a grey and gold hue I them, burning with passion. Her face is smooth yet angular making her features even more defined. She has an air of superiority around her, with her confident posture and elegant walk. All the guys were head over heels for her and the girls were either jealous or envious. They all said she looked like a super model. Of course, what the student body doesn't know is that she is actually a model at J.Jewels. Well, except for Lissa and me that is.

"Always on time no matter how late we get out of the house" I winked as I got ready for class.

The class drew by fast. As is ended, the teacher Ms. Kyoko called me to her desk.

"Zoe, please bring these files to my office. " She said pointing at the large pile of orange files on her desk.

I looked at the class and at Lissa and Jennifer but they all seemed to be occupied in their own worlds. I sighed as I picked up the heavy stack of files and headed for the office.

As I walked into the office, I noticed a familiar set of diamond blonde hair out of the corner of my eyes and looked to see the girl from earlier, Kazumi. I put my files on the teachers desk and walked over to her. She handed a teacher an envelope and turned around.

"Zoe" she smiled.

"Hey" I responded. "What are you doing here?"

"Handing over transfer forms"

"Wait. What? Transfer forms? You're transferring? Why? "I launched a string of questions.

That surprised me. Our school is a well-known high scoring school that has a supply of experienced and highly qualified teachers. The school provides for all of its clubs and have plenty of activities all year around. Not only that but the school spares no expanse in providing material for the school's academic purposes.

"Its not my choice. I got an invitation from a highly prestigious school and my aunt thinks that it's the perfect school for me to attend. I tried to talk her out of the idea and convince her that this was the best place for me but she won't listen and she is adamant." Kazumi sighed sadly..
