As embarrassing as that was, I acted like it was nothing.  Quickly I stepped out of the school and was quite impressed with how nice the school looked.  It was a simple brick building but the thing that caught my attention was the small statues scattered around the large building.  All of them were different and unique.  The only things that were the same about them is that they were all unpainted gray stone and they were all shaped like Dogs.  The school's team was the Caprio Canines so that made sense to me.   I was also intrigued by the sub-buildings.   I assumed they were used for various clubs and after-school activities.  I figured that with such little of a population the school would be the size of a Superstore's women's room.  The population must have really grown since I left, because even though the population wasn't changed since before I was born, there was probably at least 2/3 of the population here.  These were my thoughts as I walked up to the registration counter.

"Hi ma'am.  Are you here to be registered for Senior year?"  The 30-something year old lady at the counter asked me, judging by my looks and height.

"No, I'm only a Junior.  I'm Marissa Ainsworth.  I'm only 17, but that's very flattering."  I replied, a kind smile on my face.

"Sorry!"  The woman said with a shocked look on her face.  As she fumbled around in the box with schedules and paperwork she pulled out one with my name on it.  "Ms.Ainsworth, my name is Mrs.Ballel, I'm the assistant principle here at Caprio High.  Nice to meet you."

"It's nice to meet you, too.  Is there somewhere I can fill out these forms?"  I asked.

"Over there, Marissa, at the blue table."

"Thanks!"  I said heading towards the table with stacks of papers with little reminders, events, and a list of supplies needed for Junior year.  I grabbed one of each, placing them in a neat and straight pile on the table right next to my forms for registration.   As I sat down, I scoped out the room.  A few guys in jerseys for various sports here, a few girls with millions of bracelets and pounds of make-up wearing expensive looking clothes there.  It seemed pretty typical here.  Kind of like something out of a book or T.V show.  Now all we need are some typical cheerleaders and douche-bag jocks.  Yeah, no thank you.  I'm not what most people call, "pretty".  I have long black hair with blue and pink streaks, a small stud in my nose, and I have an almost all black wardrobe.  I barely wear the nose rings or studs, I just got it because my parents made me really mad.  I don't tell very many people that my nose is peirced, and I wish I hadn't gotten it.

I filled out the forms and had my dad sign them.  After I turned them in I turned around.  And ran into a guy.  Thanks, fate.

"Sorry, I should've watched whe-"

"Hey, no sweat."  The boy said, cutting me off in the process.  He started to back away, and that was when I realized how long we lingered together.

"I'm Marissa, or Mari for short."  I said, politely introducing myself.

"I'm Jacob, or Jake to my friends.  Nice to meet you, Mari."  Jacob said.

"I'll catch you later, Jacob."  I said, secretly hoping he would ask for my number.

"Call me Jake.   If I call you Mari, then you call me Jake."  He said.

"Okay, Jake."  I said "Bye."

"Wait."  He said, right before I left.  "Can I have your number?"

"Sure."  I said nonchalantly.  In my head it was more like this: "OMIGOSH YES YES YES.  THE HOT GUY WITH COMMON SENSE WANTS MY NUMBER! OMIGOSH THIS IS AWESOME.  PLEASE TELL ME THIS IS NOT A DREAM!  I LOVE HIM ALREADY!  I NEED TO HAVE HIS BABIES!"  Okay, no it was more like "Yay!  Maybe he'll be my friend and introduce me to people.."  I'm not nuts, even though he is hot.  I'm not that ridiculous.  Yes it was cool that someone wanted my number before school even started.

"Mari!  Stop talking to hot guys and get over here!"  Melody yelled at me across the hallway near the front doors.

"That's my call.  Talk to you later."  I told Jake.  Although I tried to say the last part as a statement, it sounded more like a question.

"Okay.  Bye."  Jake said, pulling out his phone.

I left the building and met up with my dad.  All you could hear in the old van was the sound of the engine and a song on the radio.   Silence.  Silence kills me a litle.  It make me want to scream to fill the noise.  I don'tknow why it was silent, but I do know that I just went along with it.

As we pulled into the drive something unexpected happened.
