"-She's okay.  Mrs. Ainsworth is going to be fine.  She won't have any permanent conditions, but her left leg is broken.  She will be released from work until her leg is healed.  She got very lucky."  The doctor told us.

Joy rushed through me and I sprung up from my seat.  Madison had already gotten up as soon as the doctor came out of my mom's room.  She hugged the doctor and I told him thank you.

"Thank you.  Thank you for aiding in saving my mother."  I said, trying to sound professional.  I pulled Madison off of the doctor and we went into her room.  She had just woken up.

"Mommy!"  Madison exclaimed as soon as she saw mom awake.

"Hi honey bun!"  She replied, trying to seem happy.

She hugged Madison and I, then Melody, and then dad.

"Hi honey"  Dad said.

"Hi Ethan."  Mom said giving dad a kiss on the cheek.

"Does it hurt anywhere, mom?"  I asked.

"No, cookie, it doesn't hurt."  She said with a smile.

"Okay."

The silence seemed to last hours, yet it was only 2 minutes.  The doctor came in just then.

"Dr. Andrews, hi."  Mom said with a smile.

"Hello, Stephanie."  Dr. Andrews said, also with a smile.

"When can I go home?"  Mom asked impatiently.

"That depends, Stephanie.  Do you feel any discomfort or pain?"

"No.  I remember everyone and everything around me, before you ask.  I know the drill. I ask these everyday.  You do remember that I work here, right?"  Mom said before chuckling quietly to herself at her joke.

"Yes.  I think you can go tomorrow.  We just have to do-"  He said before getting cut off.

"-routine tests to see how the bone is setting currently.  This is just temporary but be sure to take extra care when doing anything whatsoever.  Take caution when-" Mom managed to get out that much before getting stopped by Dr. Andrews.

"That's enough, Mrs. Ainsworth.  I'm sure you know how to properly take care of your leg."  He said with a smirk on his face.

"Honey, go home tonight and watch the girls, will you?  I can take care of myself."  Mom said to dad.

"No.  We're going to all stay here."  Dad replied.

"Melody and I can watch Madi."  I offered.

"That'd be great, dear."  Mom said sweetly.

Melody, Madison, and I said goodbye and told the parents we love them.  We headed home in my grey (gray?) truck which was dad's vehicle of choice for some reason.  I didn't question it.

"Mari, let me drive!"  Melody said as soon as we were out of the car.

"No!  I'm not letting you drive my car!"

"Please?"  She asked.

Dumbfounded, I said this:

"No."

Melody scoffed and me being the child I am, I mimicked her.  Madi scoffed too, but it followed with an adorable 8-year-old girl's giggle.

Melody and I started laughing and I took the opportunity to sneak into the driver's seat leaving Melody to get Madi strapped in and sit in the passenger side.  She gave me a glare that said "I'm going to kill you when we get home" and so after she got Madi strapped in I locked the door and slowly started pulling out of the parking spot making Melody's eyes widen at the sight.  I pulled out of the spot and left the lot.  Melody had startedchasing me and when she slowed down I pulled into the lot and stopped beside her.  She got in the car and was about to speak when I cut her off.

"And that's why you A. Don't ask to drive MY truck and B. Don't glare at your ride to our home 10 minutes away when you drive.  Imagine how long it would take you to walk."  I stated with a small smirk on my face, trying to hold back my laughter.

"YOU JERK! I AM GOING TO KILL YOU! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT YOU BI-"

"HEY!  No swearing, Madi's in here!"  I exclaimed in shock, because normally I was the one being yelled at by Melody.

"Sorry!"  Melody said, clearly beating herself up over it.

"It's fine"  I realized that she was too busy being mad at herself to be mad at me.

The car ride was filled with our little sister's talking and singing when we put a children's song CD in the player.  I was thankful for the CD I kept in my truck just in case I drove Madi anywhere.  I don't know how much longer I could listen to facts about unicorns.  We were extremely happy.

"Nothing could ruin this moment"  I thought.

Apparently I thought incorrectly.

A million things could ruin that moment... but none of them happened.
