Star

There was a drive we took,
Just him and I,
We pulled off the road
And looked up at the sky.

I asked him how I could ever be special,
With seven billion creatures just like me,
I believed that I wasn't important,
And that I would never be.

It was then that he held me,
And told me what was true,
He told me that stars are people,
Just like me and you.

They're special because there's so many,
Because they light up the whole sky.
They're beautiful because you can't erase their mark
No matter how hard you try.

He said that some shine a bit brighter than others,
And some of them connect.
Together their images tell stories,
The ones they'd like to protect.

He said that some of them are close,
Others further gone,
Some that are falling,
Others that stay strong.

So maybe I'm not perfect,
Maybe I'm not what they are.
But no matter what they tell me
I'll always believe I'm a star.
