I've been here a year or two
I've watched the sun dip down,
I've heard a howl, a scream, a shout
As troops invaded the town.
I've survived a war or two
I've seen the people run,
I've tried to save a couple,
But always lost a ton.
I've lived through a loss or two
I've lived in the past,
I've dug up some memories
And grown through it at last.
I've watched the plants grow a time or two,
I've seen them soak up the sun,
I've wished I could be like them sometimes,
Safe from the shot of a gun.
I've felt safe a time or two
I've stayed in my chair,
I've been alone but didn't feel bad,
Because I've survived my share.

This poem is one that I actually entered into a contest forever ago. The entry needed to be based on a picture. I put it in the media so hopefully the poem makes a bit more sense.
Thanks for reading!
