Chapter 5

Ace

"I am so gland that is over. Baby I love you but your father is....

"Ace! He's going to be your father-in-law next summer watch your mouth." Savanna slapped my arm as we were pulling out of the parking lot and were heading home.

"He is... The guy blatantly disrespected me right in front of you. You didn't even stand up for me Savanna. What the heck was that?" I quickly looked at her before returning to the road.

"What was I supposed to say Ace, he's my dad."

"Oh, I don't know how about 'yes dad Ace treats me very well or yes his business is doing well it is in the top ten of businesses.' How was that. Something or anything would have been better than nothing Savnna." Squeezing the wheel tight my knuckles turned white. "You know every time he sees me he can't even saw one thing nice always something  rude or pointing out my flaws." 

"Well don't show them around him. It's not my fault why are you getting upset with me." She said finally turning around to look at me. 

I hardened my gaze at the road not wanting to look at her.

"Did you really just say that to me? Don't show my flaws around him? Really? I'm marrying his daughter he should have accepted me the moment he told me I could have your hand in marriage. That's  not even the point of what pissed me off. The fact that you just sat there sipping your fancy champagne while I was being insulted right in front of you, while you didn't say anything hurt me more than anything." My anger flowing through my voice and showing in my hardened eyes.

"Ace, look just be careful the way you act around him and you won't get "attacked" by him. Besides your a man, man up and just ignore the words." She finished turning back to look out the window.

"Did you not hear a single word that just came out my mouth? I said it was the fact that you didn't stand up for me. We are to be married Savanna, we do things as couple if one of us is hurt the other should do anything to make them feel better. Did you do that? No, and that once again is what pissed me off. How am I supposed to have your back if you don't have mine?" 

"Ace....I

"You know what forget it, I see where I stand with you and your family." Reaching over to turn on the radio. Playing with the stations I finally found a good one. Turning the volume up I looked back at the road and drowned out Savanna and her pleading words. 

Hour and a Half Later

Shutting the car off I was about to get out when Savanna called my name. Sitting back in the seat I turned my head and looked at her.

"What Savanna" 

"Are...are you really mad?" She asked

"What does it look like Savanna." I said turning my head up at the car roof.

"I don't know that's why i'm asking." 

Clenching my fists I spoke the next words clear for her to understand.

"Savanna i'm beyond mad, i'm fuming and I said earlier to forget about it. Now please get out of the car I need to do something." Cutting the car back on I looked at her.

"What? What do you need to do? Where are you going?" 

"Please just get out the car Savanna, I'm not leaving you or going to cheat. Please get out the car." Turning to look at her, I leaned over and kissed her head.

"O..ok." With that she got out and was walking towards the front door.

Resting my head on the steering wheel I blew out a long breathe. Pulling out of the driveway I got to the gate and put in the code and waited for the gates to open.

Driving to my friends house took about thirty minuets. Getting out of the car I walked to his front door and knocked twice. Stepping back I waited for him to open the door. Looking behind me I heard the door creak. Turning back around I saw my friend since childhood standing on the other side.

"Hey man, whats up?" He asked stepping aside to let me inside.

"No I don't want to come in I just need to ask you something." Looking at him

"Hit me with your best shot." Leaning against the doorway smirking

"Is that ranch five hours from here still on sale." Looking him square in the eyes so he knew I was being serious.

"Yeah, no one wants it yet. Why?" Standing up, and walking out on the porch with me.

"I need some space from them man, they are killing me." I said sitting down on the stairs.

"Let me guess you guys got in a fight." sitting down beside me

"Something like that. It's just we were eating lunch with her father and you know he is always sa.....

"Saying something rude or wrong at the time yep, so what happened." He asked looking up at the clouds

"He said that Savanna doesn't look taken care of and the funny thing is that she didn't stand up for me or deny it. I mean I know I sound like a whinny boy but it's not the first time she has done this. She's been naggy lately to and I just need some space and time." Turning to see his expression I saw a blank mask.

"Well since your the only one who wants the house just fill out the paper work and I'll see if you qualify." Getting up and walking towards the house.

"Wait do you have them with you?" Walking with him to the door

"What do you think I was coming to get Ace, and go cut off your car for it runs out of gas and your stuck here." Walking deeper into the house and heading towards his downstairs office.

"Right" Quickly running to my car and shutting the ignition I walked back towards the house and closed the door.

Walking towards his office I walked in and saw him going through his black file cabinet.

"Do you want to see it first?" Turning around and heading towards his computer.

"Nope, I trust you wouldn't give me a messed up ranch." Sitting in the chair in front of his desk.

"Well then here is the paper work. Just fill it out and give it to me soon so we can get the process started.

Taking the papers and starting to fill them out I couldn't help but hope I got this ranch. Filling them all out took about a good hour or so. We chatted for a little while then I headed home. Walking in I smelt that dinner was done and walked towards the dinning room. I saw Adrianna was setting the table and that Savanna was sitting at the other end on her phone. Coughing so she could notice me here, she looked up.

 "Hey, dinner is about to be served you made it just in time." She said putting her phone down and taking a drink from her cup or red wine.

"Yeah, just in time." Walking over to sit down and waited for Adrianna to bring the rest if the food in.

"So where did you go, you were gone for quite some time." Looking at me from the rim of her wine glass.

Looking at her I knew I didn't feel like telling her I just signed up for a ranch so I told her a lie.

"Just went to the lake to get some fresh air." We both looked at each other and I think we both knew it was a lie but I wasn't about to say so.
