Ace
A year Earlier
The rain is splashing here and there. Blinding me to what I need to do.
"Ace don't you walk away from me!"
I pause in my spot. Clothes soaked to me like a second skin.
"Ace.."
Her voice, so soft yet sad. I look up in her direction. Her smile gone. Her beautiful smile. Eyes that shone so brightly months before lost their shine.
"Ace!"
My trance is broken. I turn slightly to look at her.
"I.." I can't speak. I can't get the words to come out.
"Ace you look at me right now. You have one last time."
"We.. I.."
"Ace" She speaks again. I tun back to face her. God this rain is making it hard to tell. Is her crying being masked by the rain. "Ace." The pout of her lip has my muscles tighten. I can't ignore her. I can't,not her.
"Ivy please." I whisper out into the rain. I know this is it. The time is gonna end.
"ACE! Stop looking at her and answer me!" Words spoken so harshly to the wind it makes me wonder if we weren't so far out here if people would be looking at us.
Tearing my eyes away from her hurt ones breaks my heart more than it should have.
"Savanna... This... I need..."
"Yes you need. You know what you need. Here let me tell you. You need to choose rig...
"I can't...
"No you will. It isn't hard. Her or me."
Looking away I turn back to her. Ivy. Once carefree, happy. Loving life now standing before me hurt and beyond devastated. Is that..
Is she smiling?
"It's ok"
No it not ok. Those can't be the words out of her mouth. No. I. They can't be.
"Ivy"
Step by step. Puddle beyond puddle until I reach her. Reaching out towards her shaking form. She moves.
"Please don't" Cracks in her voice peaceful voice.
"Iv..."
"Ace I'm going to count to 10. I promise this to you if you don't answer me your life will never be the same."
It hasn't been the same since I met her. It won't be the same after her. After this moment. Nothing will be the same after this. Nothing.
"1"
"Ace I..It..It's ok. Go"
I can hear it in her voice. The drop of her head. The shaking of her hands. She can't say its the cold. It's not. Her emotions are getting the best of her. I just want to. No need to hold her.
"5"
No. I can't make a choice. Not..Looking up I see her. I see what i've caused.
"Ivy please let me explain. I need you to understand."
"I understand Ace. There's nothing to understand about this."
"About what" She can't be talking about Savanna. She can't be
"You. Us. Here. This moment right now."
"9! Ace it's not that HARD!"
"Ivy. Please. All those times together. All the memories. You can't tell me it's ok. Right now is not ok. Its not o..."
"10!"
All in slow motion I watch what would be the end of my life. My happiness. Her eyes widen and she backs away. God no please not like this.
"Ace you PICK RIGHT NOW!"
Heart stopping. Rain pounding harder than ever. Body standing still. Is this how it's going to be.
"Sava.."
"NOW! IT'S NOT THAT HARD ACE I"M YOUR WIFE!"
Wife. Yet the emotions in me now say another.
"Sa.."
"PICKKKKKKKK!"
I have to. I have to pick. Making things right again.
Looking to my left I see her. All that there used to be. My happiness. My joy. My entire world in such a short time. Why like this. She deserves so much more than me. Than us. Than this moment right now. My heart shatters into pieces unable to be mended back together.
Turning to My wife. My Wife. Such strange word to say at a moment like this. My path. My world. My Past. Yet she deserves more than me. More than us. Than this moment right now. Gone is my emotions.
What do I do. Who do I choose.
My wife or her
Security or Adventure
Mind or Heart.
Stiff as a tree. Blank as glass. I have made my choice. I choose my ending.
"I'm sorry."
Nothing. Complete silence.
"I choose...
