The Cries

Chapter two

Ethan ran into the kitchen and found Eliza holding a butcher knife at a thing on the ground, he wasn’t sure what it was but it had pink goo oozing from its eyes and red dripping down from its mouth it was hissing and showing its fangs “what is that thing!” Gemma yelled from behind him “it sort of looks like a squirrel” Ethan said looking closely “WHO CARES WHAT THE BLOODY THING IS! JUST KILL IT!” Eliza yelled angrily, Ethan walked slowly up to the bench top and picked up a knife Gemma was walking next to him completely pale, the animal just stood there for a few seconds and then pounced at Gemma who wasn’t armed so all she could do was scream, Ethan was thinking ahead of the animal and stabbed it face with the small knife. He had never stabbed anything before and nearly gagged at the feeling of the knife breaking the animal’s skull and reaching its soft brain. He watched as the unnaturally deep blood dripped from the animal stuck on the end of his knife, He dropped it on the ground in disgust and Gemma wrapped herself around him and began crying, he felt her shaking of fear “its okay now, its gone” Ethan said to her and began rubbing her back trying to comfit her “How do you know if there’s not anymore though?” Eliza said darkly there was a long pause, how did he know if there was anymore there could be one waiting on the front step for all they knew “we don’t” Ethan looked hopelessly down at Gemma who had stopped crying but was still shaking from the surprise attack of the animal “well what now?” Eliza said, “We should head back to school” Ethan said “and tell them what? That we just came across some deranged animal? Honestly Ethan! Who’s going to believe us?” Gemma said wiping her face “not if we bring that with us” Ethan pointed at the animal that was now lying in a pool of blood.

Eliza walked into the school gates with Ethan and Gemma following in behind they all looked like serial killers holding knives and Eliza was even holding the dead animal, Eliza walked straight to the office to see the principal. She watched as the principal’s mouth dropped open “h-h-how did you kill it?” The principal said with a look of horror on her face “so you know about it do you?” Eliza said she looked back at Ethan and Gemma who both raised their eye brows “about w-w-what?” The Principal stuttered “ABOUT THIS DERANGED THING THAT ATTACK US! DON’T YOU!” Eliza screamed at the principal, she was glad that she had the principal under her mercy, the principal was only twenty five and was given the chance to be a principal because of how smart she was, but Eliza was just as smart, she stood there staring the principal down waiting for an answer,

“ Yes! Okay yes!” The principal said quickly then began glancing around the room to see if anyone else had been watching “you know that the vaccine has something to do with this don’t you” Eliza began confidently striding around the room “Don’t you!” Eliza yelled in her face “Yes I do! But I cant tell you” the principal said, Eliza put the knife she was holding against her throat “Could you tell us now?” Eliza said gritting her teeth “Eliza don’t! “ Ethan said, “Shut up Ethan!” Eliza looked at them both and winked to say that it was all right and that she wouldn’t actually hurt the principal “No let her” Gemma said smiling nastily, Thank god Eliza thought Gemma must have worked it out “Okay do what you like” Ethan said snarling YES! This is perfect, Eliza turned back to the principal who was shaking “so are you going to spill the beans or are we going to have to spill you blood instead” Eliza said smiling. She felt so bad for doing this, but she had to do what she had to do. Eliza began gently pushing the knife against her neck “OKAY! If you get bitten you will die from the vaccine, rather than you turning into one of them” She said quickly “what are they?” Eliza asked “I-im not sure, we think they may be mutants of some sort that has been formed from a type or virus or something. Im not sure” The principal said shakily “how do we stop it” Eliza said “you cant” the principal said with a tear filling her eye Eliza stopped to think about this, you cant? Well what’s going to happen? Eliza moved the knife away from the principals throat “well what’s the government doing?” Eliza asked suspiciously “we are under Quarantine, only Australia has the virus” the principal said starting to calm herself, “we are stuck in Australia with a deadly virus! Great” Eliza said with sarcasm.
