P.O.V Firiel

"Wake up, lass." I awoke to Bofur standing over me. It was already dark and the stars were out.
"Five more minutes," I smiled rolling over. I could hear the dwarves chuckling.
"No, come on lass," Bofur said, pulling me up.
"Alright, Bofur." I laughed, "You won this time."
"I always win, lass, Always will." He laughed along with me. I looked around and panicked when I didn't see my father.
"Bofur... where's my father. Where is Gandalf?" I asked, my eyes were wide with fear.

"He'll be back, lassie. I'm sure of it." Balin smiled, trying to reassure me.
It didn't really work. "He's been a long time." Bilbo said to himself, facing away from the fire. Away from the company.
"Who?" Bofur asked. Bilbo turned towards us, our eyes met but he quickly averted his gaze.
"Gandalf." Bilbo sighed.
"He's a wizard! He does as he chooses. Here, do us a favour: take this to the lads." Bofur turned to me, "You too, lass." Bofur handed us a bowl of soup each, Bilbo had already started walking, I turned to Bofur and he winked and pushed me which caused me to run into Bilbo. That cheeky bugger!
"I'm sorry..." I muttered.
"Okay..." Bilbo murmured. We walked in silence for a short while and I couldn't handle it.
"Why have you been avoiding me?" I asked him, he stayed silent. He kept walking. "Bilbo? Why are you ignoring me?" I asked again, I raised my voice slightly.

"This is not an appropriate time to have this conversation..." Bilbo said evenly.
"It never is, with you, is it?" I sighed. I sped up and hurried towards Kili and Fili. I didn't want to deal with something I didn't understand. When I found the brothers, they stood looking at the ponies. I tried to hand Kili some soup, but he just continued staring into the darkness.
"Well...You boys take your duties very seriously then." I smiled. Bilbo walked up to Fili, neither brother gave him a response either.
"What's the matter?" Bilbo asked.
"We're supposed to be looking out for the ponies." Kili said.
"I'd gathered that, master dwarf." I jested.
"Only we've encountered a slight problem." Fili frowned, obviously finding no humour in my joke. Tough crowd?
"We had sixteen." Kili mumbled.

"Now there's fourteen." Fili said in a low voice.
"Ah... Now that is a problem..." I stated. I regretted saying that as soon as the words came out of my mouth. 'Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!' I thought to myself. The boys examined the ponies while I looked around.
"Daisy and Bungo are missing." Kili uttered.
"Oh no! Not Daisy!" I exclaimed. Kili put his hand on my shoulder. His deep brown eyes found my own lighter brown ones. I heard Bilbo cough awkwardly and look away. I stepped away from Kili.
"Well, that's not good. That is not good at all. Shouldn't we tell Thorin?" Bilbo enquired. Fili and Kili looked at each other anxiously.
"Uhh, no. Let's not worry him. As our official burglar, we thought you might like to look into it." Fili said shiftily. Bilbo looked around. Some trees were uprooted.

"Well, uh...look, some--something big uprooted these trees." Bilbo stammered. Bilbo sure was observant.
"That was our thinking." Kili said looking at me, making me grin. I looked around and spotted a light in the distance.
"Something very big, and possibly quite dangerous." Bilbo continued. I got Fili's attention and pointed to the light.
"Hey! There's a light. Over here! Stay down." Fili whispered, he nodded to me quickly before running quietly towards the light. We all followed. Kili, Fili, Bilbo and I hid behind a log, I quickly realised that the source of the light was a fire; I could hear that we had company.
"What is it?" Bilbo asked his eyes wide with fear.

"Trolls." Kili, Fili and I whispered in unison. Kili and Fili run towards the fire, Bilbo starts to follow but quickly remembered the bowl of soup, picked it up and started running, he looked behind at me and motioned with one hand for me to follow. I quickly ran after him. Bilbo hid behind a tree and grabbed me. He quickly pushed me behind him.
"Be careful." He whispered. I nodded. I watched him as his eyes widened. "He's got Myrtle and Minty! I think they're going to eat them, we have to do something." Bilbo exclaimed in a whisper.

"Yes; you should. Mountain trolls are slow and stupid, and you're so small." Kili said. He was planning something.
"N--n--no--" Bilbo stuttered, I grabbed his hand and squeezed it slightly, trying to calm him down. He seemed to relax a tiny bit.
"They'll never see you." Kili whispered, glaring at my hand that was still holding Bilbo's.
"No, no, no..." Bilbo muttered, under his breath.
"It's perfectly safe! We'll be right behind you." Kili pressed.
"If you run into trouble, hoot twice like a barn owl, once like a brown owl." Fili whispered. He and Kili pushed Bilbo towards the dwarves. I shook my head. I heard Bilbo mutter to himself.
"Twice like a barn owl, twice like a brown--once like a brown?---" I never got a chance to hear the rest, Kili had grabbed my hand and pulled me away from Bilbo.

"What do you think you two are doing?" I growled. I pulled my hand away from Kili and started walking away from them, back to Bilbo.
"What do you think you are doing?" Kili growled, echoing what I had just said.
"I'm going back to help Bilbo." I stated.
"No you are not, you will get yourself hurt." He frowned, grabbing my arm.
"Don't touch me," I snapped, "I'm going to help Bilbo, and you cannot tell me what to do." I sped off, back to help my friend.
When I got back Bilbo was by the ponies, I manoeuvred myself over to him, hiding behind trees when the trolls looked over, which they hardly did. I knelt down beside Bilbo which startled him. "Firiel! What are you doing here? It isn't safe here..." He whispered. I shook my head.

"I couldn't leave you here alone..." I whispered back.
"I bet Kili didn't like you leaving..." He muttered, which confused me, why does it matter what Kili thinks.
"He...didn't... but why does it matter? I don't answer to Kili..." I stuttered, my sentences broken. Bilbo was watching the trolls.
"But-you two... aren't you two---"He stopped mid-sentence, looking at the trolls knife.
"What? What were you trying to say..." I queried. He put his hand up.
"Shhh..." Bilbo murmured.

Bilbo crawled over to the troll. All I could do was watch, too afraid to do anything in case I accidently got Bilbo killed. A troll stands up to scratch his bottom, Bilbo looks completely disgusted and under different circumstances I would have laughed.
"Me guts are grumbling, I've got to snaffle something. Flesh I need, flesh!" A troll complained.
My heart stopped completely when one of the trolls grabbed Bilbo, thinking that he was his handkerchief. The troll brought Bilbo up to his nose and blew all his troll boogers onto him. The troll looked down at Bilbo and just stood there and looked at him for a moment in shock.
"Argh!!! Blimey! Bert! Bert! Look what's come out of me 'ooter! It's got arms and legs and everything." The troll squealed. I almost laughed, but sobered when I saw the terrified look on Bilbo's face. 'Hide.' Bilbo mouthed. I shook my head. Bilbo's eyes pleaded for me to run, to hide, I decided to watch behind a nearby tree and bide my time.

"What is it?" Another troll asked.
"I don't know, but I don't like the way it wriggles around!" The troll that held Bilbo squealed, yet again, and dropped Bilbo onto the ground.
"What are you then? An oversized squirrel?" The other troll asked.
"I'm a burglar-- uhh, Hobbit." I buried my face into my hands. 'He's a silly damn hobbit, more like.' I thought.
"A Burgla-Hobbit?" The troll inquired. The trolls had all gathered 'round. I looked around where I hid, looking for a weapon of some kind. "Aha!" I whispered, holding a piece of jagged rock.
"Can we cook 'im?" one of the trolls asked. Over my dead body.

"We can try!" The trolls started chasing after Bilbo and I came out from my hiding spot, crawling towards the trolls. Bilbo did fairly well with not being caught, but eventually one of the trolls got him.
"Come here, you little... Gotcha! Are there any more of you little fellas 'iding where you shouldn't?"
Bilbo looked for me, he looked relieved when he couldn't see me, "Nope."
I was close to the trolls and was getting ready to stab one of them in the foot. "He's lying." One of the trolls growled.
"No I'm not!" Bilbo exclaimed. That's when I did it.

"Owwwwwwww!!! Something got me Bert!" The troll I stabbed cried.
"What is it?" A troll said as it picked me up, "Another Burgla-Hobbit?"
"I don't care what it is, Hold its toes over the fire. Make it squeal." Bert the troll ordered.
I heard Bilbo scream at them, telling them not to do it. But just as they were holding me over the fire a figure jumped out of the bushes, stabbing one of the troll in the leg. It fell dropping Bilbo.
"Drop her!" he yelled. It was Kili.
"You what?" The troll said, it seemed slightly confused. Trolls really weren't smart creatures.
"I said, drop her!" Kili yelled. The troll through me at Kili knocking him over. The rest of the company charged out of the bushes. "I'm glad you're okay." Kili said smiling down at me.

We stood up, Kili gathered me up into an embrace, "Never do that again..." He whispered into my ear. I pulled away and nodded. Kili ran into the fight, and I ran over to Bilbo. He had the troll's knife and cut the ponies free. I hadn't got there in time however as the troll had grabbed Bilbo, another troll grabbed him by his legs.
"Bilbo!!" I cried.
"No!" Thorin yelled.
"Lay down your arms, or we'll rip his off." The troll threatened. Kili grabbed me, I hadn't gone far from the company. The dwarves all put down their weapons, and the trolls tied me and a few others up in sacks. Some dwarves were tied up onto a stick and put over a fire.

I honestly saw no way of getting out alive.
