Fakir's Pov
Feathers. Feathers everywhere. Horrible black feathers.
The ravens are everywhere. Clawing at my mother and father. Pecking them.
I see their blood. I hear their screams. All covered by feathers.
"Leave them alone you stupid birds. Stop it, stop it."
I fall to the ground in tears begging for my parents to be ok.
But the picture slowly changes.
Instead of my parents I see Ahiru as a duck. The ravens hurting her. Pulling her feathers. Clawing her wing. Pecking at her until blood spurts from it. Soon she stops moving.
"No no not again."
I run to her. The ravens continue pecking at her. They don't even respond to me. I lift her up moving her away from the ravens.
"Ahiru please wake up. Please don't leave me. I can't lose you."
The ravens come back and attack Ahiru again. Constant blood. Hear breathing slows.
"Stop it. Stop it."
"STOP IT!!"
I jolt awake screaming. I look around my room. I see Ahiru standing by my bed staring at me with wide eyes. She holds a plush duck and I can see her trembling in her long night gown.
"Are you ok Fakir? I heard you screaming so I rushed to your room." Ahiru says.
I try to control my breathing. When I don't reply she walks closer to me.
"Fakir..." She says.
She sits on my bed and grabs my hand gently.
"Fakir you're shaking. What's wrong?" Ahiru asks worried.
I am about to lie but I see her eyes begging to let her help.
"I - I had a nightmare." I say.
"I'm sorry you did. Would you like to talk about it?" She asks.
Will I seem weak if she finds out what it was about? How will she respond if I tell her about the part with her in it?
But she wants to help. And it may actually help me.
"It started off with me rewatching my parents die. The feathers everywhere. Their screams. Their blood. And I stand there helpless to save them." I start.
I see the pain in her eyes. I take my time continuing. It's now or never.
"Then it changed. It change to you." I say.
"M-me?" She asks.
"You were a duck again. The ravens kept attacking you. They pulled your feathers. They cut your wings. The pecked you. After a while you weren't moving. I tried to save you but I couldn't. You were bleeding in my arms. I couldn't save you. History repeated itself." I say.
I feel tear stream down my face. I don't want to cry. Not in front of her. Not in front of anyone.
"Oh Fakir it's ok." She says.
She hugs me and I feel her tears on my back.
"I didn't mean to trouble you." She says.
"Don't be stupid it's not your fault." I say with my voice faultering.
"It's ok to cry. It's just me." She says.
I feel my tears come down more as I start to remember the feeling of losing Ahiru in my arms.
I hug her back and squeeze her. I don't want her to leave. I can't let her leave me. I already lost my parents. After my parents and Karon she's the only one who never gave up on me. She believes in me.
"Don't ever leave me." I say softly.
"I won't." Ahiru whispers back.
She pulls out of the hug and look in my eyes. She gives me a shaky smile.
"We are going to be together forever remember. That's what we promised at the lake." She says.
I try to give a smile back.
"We did promise forever." I reply.
"Thank you for helping me out Ahiru." I say.
"No problem Fakir." She says.
She gets up off my bed.
"Well goodnight Fakir. I'm here if you need me." She says turning around.
"Wait Ahiru." I say.
The words rushed out of my mouth before I could catch them.
"Yes." She says back towards me.
"Do... well can... will you stay with me for tonight? Please?" I ask.
I see her blush red.
"Never mind I should've never asked. I wouldn't want to trouble you." I says.
"No no, of course I will stay with you." She says.
She walks back to me.
"Where would you like me to be?" She asks with a smile.
"You can take the bed if you want." I reply.
"No I would hate to kick you out your bed." She says.
"We could share the bed." I mumble.
"Ok sure." She says.
I look at her shocked but I move over. She climbs in and I see that she is red.
A few minutes if silence happen.
"Hey Fakir, your hair is long." Ahiru says.
I remember that I took my hair out of its normal ponytail. I think this is her second time seeing my hair like this. The first would be when I first found out she was a duck and we went to save Mytho.
"I guess it is. But so is yours." I reply.
"Yeah that's right. Well goodnight Fakir." She says.
"Good night Ahiru." I reply.
You know I doubt I'll get that dream again tonight.
