Chapter 71 - Mae Day

I stood holding the baby and rocking it to try and stop the crying when the ground opened up below me and I fell. I dropped the baby as my arms flung out to the sides automatically to try to stop myself from falling. The baby screamed louder as it fell at greater speed than I did.... shit a troll hole. I fucking hate trolls.

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! CONRAD!" I screamed in the hope he would hear me as I tried to move my body like a parachutist towards the baby. I was nearly there when I heard the wings, shit it was coming.... ahhhhhhhh that big clawed thing from before that had delivered me to the trolls.... Conrad! Uncle! SEBASTIAN!!!!!!!

"What now you're more trouble than Conrad these days... where the hell are you?" I heard in my mind before it disappeared and I knew Sebastian was coming. You're for it now big bird! He is going to rip off your wings!

I had no idea where the baby had gone, I lost sight of it and couldn't hear it crying. I couldn't hold my head up properly to look around. It was then I realised I wasn't their target, I was going to hit the ground and turn to mush if Sebastian didn't get here in time. They wanted the baby not me.

The floor was fast approaching. I tried to look around. Volcano mouth.... rock face.... think... don't panic...you can save yourself... oh shit... oh god... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Sebastian!!!

I was about to hit the floor when I felt a Lion's presence. The giant tail appeared just within reach but as I reached out to grab it and stop falling it flicked, sending me flying to the side where I smacked against tree tops. Tearing into my flesh with their branches and leaves. I fell through the branches grappling for something to stop me from hitting the floor. I missed and felt the sickening thud shake my head as I hit the ground.

"LEE! I trusted you to save her!" Sebastian roared.

"She's alive," Lee said as I fought for breath.

"Using your tail as a baseball bat and her as a ball is not saving!"

"The tree caught her," Lee replied his Lion form telepathy was shaking my head just as much as the fall.

"The tree is not a safety net. Go and pick her up whilst I take this child to safety."

"No way, she can get up herself," Lee replied annoyed.

"She wouldn't be down there if it wasn't for you."

"She'd be dead if I had my way. I've been lenient enough for Suri's sake."

"And would Suri appreciate her father swatting her mother like a fly to the floor with his tail."

"She is not Suri's mother. Her mother is dead."

"As a lawyer you know the importance of paperwork and legal jargon so technically and Mae is her mother, so don't start making Mae feel worse than she already does. She just saved this child and saved your daughter on numerous occasions and what thanks does she get from you for her sacrifices?"

"None I couldn't careless what she does as long as she stays away from my children and family."

"You are married moron, she is your family," Conrad said his feet appearing in front of me. "You touch her again and I will kill you Lee." I was shocked how cold Conrad was towards him. He wasn't joking, he would kill him.

"Take your best shot," Lee countered. "When I am finished with you I will use her bones to pick my teeth."

"Oh for crying out loud stop measuring dicks and get out of here," Sebastian moaned. "We have a ceremony to attend and you will be courteous to your wife!"

"I don't need reminding of the promise I made my grandfather," Lee said purposely putting his huge lion paw in my eye line and letting his claws extend.
