The Bucket List Chapter 1:
*Beep Beep Beep* The sound that I am tired of listening to all the time. I am in my private hospital room in St. Joseph’s Hospital. I have my white gown. I have in the hospital so many times in my life that the people know me there. Ever since I could remember I had cancer. Probably since I was like 4. It’s been hard I am not going to lie. While kids would complain about going to school every morning, I would complain about getting my chemo. I never got to do things like the other kids. I just wish for one day I could do that. Just experience things not in the hospital. I mean I do go out of the hospital, but the hospital is pretty much my second home.
“Good morning Media.”
“Hi Charlotte.” I smiled. She smiled back.
“Well today is chemo day. We will keep trying. I want you to be better. You shouldn’t go through this.”
“Yeah well it’s just life.” She just nodded. I have known Charlotte all my life. She has been my nurse since the beginning and she became my friend, which I desperately need. And after about 16 years of having cancer and going through chemo, I learned to accept it.
“Well you want to get started now?” I nodded.
“Let’s get this over with.” She took a syringe and put it into my arm. I felt my eyes closing until they were completely shut. (I don’t know how they do chemo and I don’t want to research it because it makes me cry learning about cancer patients) I woke up to the same white room, but my mom was sitting next to me.
“Hi mom.”
“Hey sweetheart.”
It’s been hard for my mom, like really hard. She acts tough but I know she just goes home and cries to sleep. I try to comfort her when I can.
“How are you feeling?”
“Well to be honest, like shit. I just miss my hair.”
I am completely bald, I used to have brown hair, but chemo took that away. So I just dealt with my baldness.
My mom chuckled.
“I bet. I bet it gets cold.” I laughed. “It sure does, but I don’t have to brush it now.”
“Well I hope you are okay. Want me to get food?” I shook my head.
“I better get going I have work to do.” I nodded. She kissed my forehead/head and left. A few minutes later a Char (charlotte) came in with food, my stomach grumbled. She laughed.
“Someone’s hungry.” She gave me the food, but as soon as I put it in my mouth, I threw it back up. The pleasures of chemo and cancer.
