It was the next day and I woke up to the sound of my annoying clock ringing. I remember how yesterday I couldn't wait to hurry up and get home. I was that excited, I mean come on the love of my life had asked me if he could sit with me! I mean me of all people. I mean sure he invited his friends as well, but it was still me.
It gave me the flutters thinking about it. So here I am hurrying to brush my teeth. I hurried and put my clothes on then was out the door in 8 minutes flat. As I was jogging to the bus stop I ended up seeing the familiar blonde head I was dying to see.
"Hey football head!" I greeted.
Arnold looked up from his phone taking one of his headphones out. He then turned to face me giving me that familiar gorgeous smile. I sighed on the inside trying my best not to let my feelings show.
"Hey Helga, nice to see you. You look good today." Arnold said with a genuine smile.
"What are you trying to do, flirt with me Arnold? That's not going to make me be any less mean to you." I teased.
"I- I wasn't trying to, I just thought you looked nice today." Arnold stuttered while blushing.
I blushed as well but smacked him to cover up the way I was feeling.
"Sure Arnoldo whatever." I said.
"So uh you got your assignment done for English yet?" Arnold said changing the subject.
"Of course, that paper was so easy it only took me an hour to finish it." I said.
"Wow seriously?! It took me at least 3 hours to finish mines." Arnold said shocked.
"Yeah well writing assignments are a breeze, I pretty much do that everyday. So of course I'll get it done in no time." I said confidently.
"Wow Helga you really are smart." Arnold said.
"What's that suppose to mean, that you thought I was stupid before?" I snapped.
"No Helga I'm just saying that your still as smart and confident as I remember." Arnold said softly.
My face began to get hot and I turned my head away to look as if I'm mad. But really I just didn't want him to see how flushed my face was.
"Oh really now?" I said unbelievably.
"Yeah I mean it, I'm glad to know that most parts of you never changed since we were younger. It's one of the reasons why I like you so much." Arnold said.
I snapped my head to him upon hearing that. Did he just admit to having feelings for me?
"What...?" I said staring at him.
Arnold blushed and held a hand over his mouth. Looking embarrassed.
"I meant I like you as my friend of course! Ha ha good best friends..." Arnold chuckled nervously.
I looked to the ground and held myself. I should've known he didn't mean he loved me or anything. Especially after what happened in the past. It was then that I felt Arnold lift my chin up to look at him. He gazed into mines while I did the same, admiring his green emerald eyes.
"You know I was lying about that friends thing right?" Arnold said.
I didn't respond but at that time he wiped a tear that had slowly moved down my cheek. Wow I didn't even realize I was crying.
"I hate seeing you cry. It makes me feel utterly helpless. I love seeing that fiery and funny spirit." Arnold said wiping more tears that continued to flow down my cheeks.
