It was a Friday night, and my mum called in to check if I could pick my brother up at Woolworths at Potts Point. I’d be fine with it if it was any other day, but my mum chose today, the day I wish came in sooner because I made plans with my high school friends I haven’t seen lately due to work and rehearsals for Justice Crew shows.

Unfortunately for me, tonight was the only time everyone was available to meet up, and I wasn’t available to stay all night with them, because I was the only one left to pick him up.

My twin brother Lenny had to go home early because of his son, Harley. It was their bonding moment at night to tuck him in bed. He was keen on seeing our other friends as well, but I guess he was already used to staying at home ever since Harley was born, his sweet little angel, and the only time he could play with him is when we had a day off, which right now is quite impossible due to the upcoming shows and concerts we were rehearsing for.

“Leaving so soon, John?” Eric asked. He was one of the guys I was closest to in high school, but we drifted apart after because of our work schedules. He may have his own time as a successful businessman, but he was determined to save up enough money for his future, just like everyone else.

“Yeah, picking up the lil bro. My mum has something planned.” I explained, and he nodded, in a way that he feels for me for having to get out of my way to pick him up.

It’s not that I was upset for it. He is my brother after all, and all I care about is his safety. But maybe I was just at the point where my excitement was crushed and went down the drain before it was even launched. Devastated, but I’m sure that in the coming days, I’ll be feeling better and forgetting about all these like it didn’t happen.

“Okay then. Well, see you sometime then. Lunch, next time?” He offered and I agreed. “Just text me when you’re free and I’ll try to squeeze you in.”

By the time I got to Woolworths, it was already ten minutes after closing time, but Colin was nowhere to be found. Calling his phone wasn’t helping either as it was off. The other guys left inside were working on filling the shelves and arranging each product, which I kind of felt shy to ask if they could have seen my brother.

Could he already left? Could mum forget to tell him I was in charge of picking him up tonight?

“Are you here to pick up Colin?” A beautiful voice spoke up, in the middle of searching someone to bother and ask for my brother’s whereabouts.

Looking around to match the voice with a face, I found myself turning almost 360 degrees just to find her, only to be met by a bunch of giggles, like a little girl about to get her favourite stuffed animal after winning a game at the carnival.

She was petite, about 5’2” I’m guessing. Her dirty blonde hair was tied up in a messy bun, but way too attractive for my taste, showing off her nicely blue eyes, and a shy looking smile. She was still dressed in her uniform, holding on a loaf of bread.

I thought this only happened in the movies, but the thing is, I may have my eyes glued to her.

Now, I’m talking like a girl.

“Um… you’re John right?” She then asked which got me wondering why she knew my name as I furrowed my eyebrows.

And she was a smart girl too, or maybe a mind reader as she knew what was I thinking right at this moment. “Zomg, you’re John from Justice Crew! Omg, can I please have a picture? Omg.” She squealed mockingly, though it was the sweetest one I have ever heard. Also one, that caught me off guard. I wasn’t expecting that at all.

To the Justice Crew boys, winning Australia’s Got Talent was something that took us a couple of years before it sunk in our minds that we were about to get our dreams in our hands. Personally, I still can’t believe of what we have become right now. Everything is just a dream and you know in the next minute, you’d wake up from it, but we’re all glad that it hasn’t stopped yet. We’re still taking the stage and living our dreams, and the best part of it was inspiring other people to believe, and not give up.
