“Hmm Bailey, you didn’t mention that you’re dating John Pearce.” Jillian grinned for the longest time, looking at me like she was screaming give-me-the-details-or-I’ll-ask-him-myself look.
“We’re not dating.” I retorted. That was just one time, and I doubt there will be a next one.
“Mhm…” She expressed in a questioning tone. She doesn’t believe me at all. Great.
Jillian stood up and went to the kitchen. Coming back with a silver tray, she gathered up all the used glasses, saucers, and utensils we used while catching up with John. Good thing, they didn’t talk about my living conditions or the fact that I had been hiding and lying to John about it. It wasn’t her position to tell, but I know that in time, I needed to tell him about it.
I just wish that he wouldn’t turn out like the other guys I’ve met. Leaving me just because I was poor.
“He obviously likes you.” Jillian said as she was about to bring the tray back to the kitchen to wash it.
Guilty of the fact I have been using her and her house, I volunteered to wash the dishes as a thank you. But she insisted that it’s nothing. It’s her way of welcoming us in her house, and it wouldn’t change any fact. Thankful, I hugged her and promised I’d tell her all the details about what’s going on. It was the least I can do, plus it would be a good idea if there’s someone I could talk to about John, you know, just in case.
“John’s different with you.” She confessed, while busy washing off the dishes. Her back was turned to me, so this leaves me with nothing but her voice. No emotions were seen, but her tone was suggestive like having a meaning behind every word.
“Why do you say that? How do you know him?” Curious, I asked, at the same time, I wanted to know more about him, hoping she’d get the idea of my questioning.
“He’s my ex.” With one look, she smiled at me, and then returned to the dishes. “Sort of, well, not really, it was a one-sided love.” She explained, while wiping her hands with a towel.
Omg.
Why am I suddenly at loss for words?
Jillian realizing my sudden silence, she gestured for me to sit down on the counter stool across her. “John was in love with my older sister by three minutes, Jaq.”
Wait, what.
“Didn’t I ever mention to you I have a twin sister?” Jillian asked, running her hand on her hair, more like playing with it, refusing to look straight at me. I shook my head, only because I knew she had a sister, but not a twin.
“Jaq and I are identical, and our mum used to dress up the same all the time, which we actually loved. It was our thing, and we enjoy it.” She trailed off, smiling when remembering the clothes their mum make them wear.
“Anyway, Jaq and John have been friends longer, and through Jaq, I met John and Lenny. He was perfect and I had a teensy little crush on him, which I can’t even tell my sister because I knew she’d tease me to death and I didn’t want that to happen.” She continued, glancing towards anything her fingers could find in front of her, still not allowing her eyes to come in contact with mine. I’m still at loss for words, and having questions stirring in my mind isn’t helping my tongue to show up and say those words.
“Which, by the way, I was thankful for when I found out that John fell for Jaq, and I guess, they had a little thing going on and one time they got into a fight. John came to the house drunk, and when he saw me, we kissed. He kissed me. I definitely froze during that time. I actually thought he was kind of proposing, which I accepted, and took care of him.” She slightly chuckled, now tapping the counter with her fingers.
