Meredith was about to enter her classroom when she heard someone calling her name. It was Derek, in the end of the hallway. He was running on her direction when the students started to appear.

"I'm sorry. I heard that Phillip made quite a scene." He whispered in her ear.

"He did, but then we talked and I agreed to have a decent conversation whenever I feel ready."

"That's good." His eyes could tell that all he wanted in that moment was to hug and kiss her.

"Yeah. That's good."

Their hands were almost touching when a little girl appeared and wanted Meredith's attention so Derek backed off.

"Talk to you later." He said leaving

"Okay."

Time seemed not to pass. It was an exam week so there was nothing to do but look at the students to see if anyone was cheating.
All her thoughts were about Derek and how confused she was with that whole situation. She got her phone to text him when a message from Phillip popped up.

-- I'm sorry. I really am. I made that stupid show and it was completely unnecessary. I left something for you with Richard. Hope you can understand how truly sorry I am so take your time for that.
I love you, Meredith Grey. --

She had no idea what he could have left her there. Some ideas came up in her mind when a text from Derek appeared.

I want to take you to a special place tonight. Meet me at the 4th floor at 6.
Love you.

From that moment her thoughts were divided. One in Phillip's present and the other on Derek's special place.
She needed some air and water, so called the assistant, Bookie, to stay with her students.

"Grey!" Richard yelled from his office.

"Yes?!" She pretended not to know a thing.

"Your husband left something for you." He said giving it to her.

There was a bouquet with daisies and lavenders, her favorite flowers but also a special edition of a Portuguese book that she loved, called 'O Primo Basílio', with a note inside.

I'm sorry for being such a jerk, but you know how much I love you. I really hope we can go through this phase and be happy again. I'll be waiting for you.
Enjoy your presents.

With love from a husband who loves you more than anything,
Phillip

She teared up a little. She knew that he was truly sorry and the gifts where more than spectacular.

Richard noticed that she wasn't okay so he decided to let her go home early.
"Meredith, you don't need to go back today. Get your things and take the rest of the day off. I'll see you tomorrow."

They went to her classroom and Richard asked Bookie to stay there because Meredith was about to leave.
Her purse was all she needed, so she got it and left.

Her feelings were confused. She was in the dark place and she didn't know if what she was doing with Derek was right and if that was what she really wanted. Maybe the problems with Phillip could be solved and they could be happy again.

She decided to go to Cristina's.

Derek was talking to Mark in the balcony when she ran to catch the elevator.
They weren't understanding what was going on, so Derek waited to see if the elevator was going down and took the stairs to get her.

"Meredith!" He yelled

"I'm sorry Derek. I can't do this right now. I need some time." She was barely breathing.

"I thought we were okay, that this whole situation was okay." He looked disappointed.

"Me too, but it isn't. It's really complicated and I need to face it alone."

"But Meredith, I'm here to help you. Let me do this."

"I don't want help, Derek. In this, there's no us. There has never been an us. I need space and I'm leaving now."

Meredith walked away in her car's direction and didn't look back leaving Derek standing there without an explanation.
