Being the new kid is not always the best thing in the world, my parents cast me out here to get a better education and to get a good hold on what I want for my future. The school is a little run down, and almost immediately the principle handed me to the 'capable hands' of Mr. Grodo then left without further explanation. The only good news is that the girl from lunch was here.

This class is supposed to be history, so when the teacher started talking everyone bent their heads down looking for all the world as if they were focusing on their work. It was very convincing if most of them didn't and up snoring or jolt awake yelling "I'm not asleep" causing the entire class to erupt with laughter.

Mr. Grodo didn't even bat an eye until one of the girls, the one who bumped into me at lunch, she was moaning and holding her ears. She was quiet but even the kids across the room gave her sympathetic looks.

"Miss Star would you go see the nurse again and quite that wretched noise" he snaps at her as she gets up, literally rushing out the door, but before she leaves Mr. Grodo calls to her back " take the new kid with you for a tour. Then if the nurse gives the go ahead, go home and don't come back" he snarls the last words after her, showing no sympathy for the girl who is clearly in pain.

Running to catch up I call "my name is Dylan, Dylan Swrip" a few moments pass I continue "what's your name". Just then we stop in front of a door and she whispers "Mystery" then with an interesting knock on the door before us she calls a little louder "nurse, Grodo wants you to check my ears again" the door opens slowly and a small head peaks out "come, come children" then the door is opened wider and Mystery disappears into the nurse's office.

It is a small room with a single chair and a two floor to ceiling cabinets that flank a small desk, on the other side of the room there is a small stretcher set up to sit a patient on it. The small room has a single window letting in very little light and barely casting shadows on the pale beige colouring of the room.

Mystery reaches for the drawer closest to the flour on the right side of the desk and pulls out a device resembling an ice-cream cone connected to a stick, then handing the tool to the nurse she sits on the stretcher.

The nurse advances on Mystery like cat and mouse, then the small women starts to speak "so you're the new kid Daniel" Her voice little more than squeaks " it's actually Dylan" shaking her head slightly the nurse say sweetly "oh, sorry Dylan" then speaking to Mystery she says exasperated "there is still nothing wrong with your ears, as far as I can see".

Wasting no time we leave the nurse to whatever she was doing before we had arrived, finally out of the tiny room and into the somewhat larger hallway we continue throughout the school. It's  just then that I notice something different, she stopped moaning and keeps glancing at me, "what?" I ask a little to annoyed, she glances down looking a little ashamed. My ears barely catch it when she breaths "Your story is very interesting" we stop and I turn her to look at me "what do you mean?" she lifts her head smiling.

''your destiny..." I look her over, no sign of injury, maybe she hit her head or something "you see" Mystery continues "I have the gift of sight, three years ago I was declared the last true seer, my birthmark sealed the deal and I was given a complete title".

Seers, sue sayers, fortune tellers they are a thing of legend only,  few people even know what one is, "and what did you see in my future?" I ask skeptically. She gives me a sly smile and giggles, the sound sending shivers through my body, when she's finished I wish that I could make her laugh, if only to hear what it might sound like. "when the details are released, you won't exactly be the same you, understand" I nod, curious as to what she will say, stealing herself she continues "I saw something that with happen around the next 'bend' to say the least".

Continuing around the dull hallway past lousy posters and painted murals that seem to be done by kindergarteners, the bend is so close, and then we pass it. I stop abruptly staring dumbfounded at the front door to the school, Mystery coaxes me forward silently but effectively, soon the doors are open and the cool after noon air pulls gently at our clothing.

Walking past the bushes in the front of the school nothing happens, no one stops us, suddenly my most obvious thoughts come to the front of my mind the warning bells flashing bright. Where is she taking me? what did she mean? is she lying? before I have a chance to decide whether to loss her, she grabs my collar and bends her leg behind mine, then we are both on the ground in the nearest ally.

her hands cover my mouth, so I bite hard, she releases me, stifling a scream that turns into a sad sob that ends when she sees my face. Mystery takes up a defensive stance that mirrors my own. Close to the ground right leg out behind and both hands on either side of our bodies to complete the stance and help with balanced.

She snarls "sorry for the inconvenience of this but if you wanted to hear more I'd rather it be else where. This city never sleeps, which also means its ears won't either" My brain is moving too slowly what does she mean by ears? "And so what if they do hear, what would happen then" she gets up from the stance and I do the same, but I don't let my guard down, not yet anyway. When she looks up I wish she was snarling again it would be better than the look she gave me now.

"If the world knew their future they would do everything in their power to change it, and make life easier for them selves" she breaths releasing her building agitation before continuing "you are different then the rest, you hold an old, ancient power, a kind of ability this earth hasn't seen in a long while. With it comes great hardships that can only guarantee your future but this can only be true when you choose the right path towards it."

Walking out of the ally she calls "meet me at the Dika Chelia, only if a life of adventure and pain is more appealing to you than this" Mystery gestures to the space they landed in. Than she was gone, out of view so I ran out of the ally "hey wait, what do you mean?" When I cleared the ally and burst into the now crowded street bustling with hovering cars of a multitude of colours and shapes that could only be more people. Quickly searching the various beings minding their own business, but she was no where to be seen " Mystery?".
