"where are we going now? I thought we were done for the day?" Matthew whines.
I flash a smile his way "we found a party while you were gone" we're walking along the beach the sun setting, seeming to sink slowly below the waves.
"So where is this party... they said it would be here" Matthew says in frustration.
"Calm down it's here, all you have to do is feel for it" Mystery puts an arm on his shoulder "uh huh" was his signature response and we all stop and wait for him to 'feel' the party. "what?" he asks looking for answers but Mystery is the only one with answers "music."
She turns to address all of us as if we were children "think of this as a field trip, controlling your element means much more than you'd think."
Matthew throws an idea to the wind "let me guess you have to feel it" she nods "yes, in a way but you have to listen. Listen to all those voices calling your name begging to help, those are not the only voices you will hear"
"what do you mean Mystery?"
"Well, the voices that scream out at you are the past elementals, if you search deep, deep down each of you can hear the voice of your element." Turning her back to us she continues "you are one, beating the same heart and living the same life, you are them and they are you."
Gryphon looks around at all of us pleading "can we go in now" Matthew shoves her and they start to hit each other like children, I sigh "maybe we should go in, but only if it will make them learn to behave" mystery smiles, stifling a fit of giggles while walking to the peer. We trail her, quiet and curious.
Under the peer Matthew and Gryphon continue to fight, until Mystery pushes them. Both fall to the ground but what happened to Gryphon when she fell completely took everyone off guard.
"Ouch what was that for" Gryphon shouts out of the well concealed crack in the but. I look up into the brown eyes that seemed to draw the light to her face. I don't hesitate in bowing, swinging my arms to let her go first, she jumps and a few seconds later I too jump. A thud sounds behind me and I know that Matthew had landed perfectly, ready for anything.
We ran freely down the passage of rock that sinks lower and curves to go beneath the beach concealed by sand and waves at high tide. Everyone stops running, there's a dead end, but mystery plows on as if it's not there. Mystery disappears through the wall of rock leaving behind a shimmering image of quaking rock.
Matthew steps forward "I got this" as he runs shoulder first into the rocky illusion. He crashes into the dead end wall, completely disappearing from view and cries out "hey ... you guys coming?" Matthew steps back out to stand among us.
Gryphon sneers at Matthew as she walks into the wall without any trouble and Matthew walks in after her, grumbling his humiliation away. walking through the wall of fake rock felt like emerging dry from a sheet of liquid, and almost immediately I find a pair of gaping elementals and join them to gawk at the fray.
The cavern is huge, stretching so high that judging the height seems near impossible, from it hung strings of glowing wild life growing and spreading, casting their brilliant sea light to every dark corner of the cave. Half way down there are walkways with people laughing and having a good time, some pretending to throw their friends over. The less fortunate drunks were slung onto the rail for laughs and to keep them out of the way.
The ground floor, where we are is teeming with happy drunk teens, dancing to the music booming all around us. A DJ is set up to the right of the stage, which is currently occupied by a young woman who is singing to her adoring fans dancing around that raced platform. Each movement was in synch to the rhythmic beat and music of her voice.
