Chapter 3

Eliza

"Wow, Eliza! I never knew you could fight like that. You just beat Ryder Heades! He has been the best for years." Said Sylvia as we walked away from the circle. "First day and you've already earned yourself a reputation! Anyway, I was meant to show you around so maybe we should start here. These are our cabins." She gestured towards the cabins set in a U shape.

"You are placed in each cabin depending on who your parent is." That can't be right, my dad is just a plumber and I never knew my mum, I thought.

"Like your godly parent. You know how you have never seen your mum, well that's because she is a god. And your ADHD and dyslexia is to suit your demigod needs." It was a lot to take in but it made total sense. I nodded at Sylvia. But there was one question that was on my mind, that I was tempted to ask.

"Sylvia, you knew this but why didn't you tell me?" I tilted my head a bit.

"Because mortals can't know about this and you wouldn't have believed me without proof." She said apologetically. "Ok, so until we find out who your parent is you are going to have to stay here, in the Hermes cabin. She opened the first door, to reveal a cabin so cramped that there were sleeping bags all over the floor.

"Um...it looks cosy." I said trying to give it some positive feedback.

"Hey Eliza!" I heard a familiar voice and looked up. Ryder was sitting on a top bunk, right in the far corner. "I saved you a bed." He winked at me. "Everyone agrees that someone of your standard and skill should be able to have a bunk, even if you might not be a child of Hermes." I blushed. "Don't worry, I'll nick you some stuff." He said. I felt right at home. Everyone was very welcoming. I got to know most people, but I mainly stuck around with Ryder.

I sat down on my small bunk, and considered all of the days events. Me killing Mrs Dowdey, seeing a real centaur, then actually beating the best swordsman in the whole camp.

I got to know this small 14 yr old girl called Haley. She was very nice and caring. She had been claimed by Hermes the minute she had arrived at camp.

"Eliza, we have to go to the pavilion for dinner, you coming. Who knows maybe you might be claimed." Said Ryder, his head peeping just above mine.

"Yep, I'm coming, just wait for me." I quickly slipped on the 'Camp Half Blood' T-shirt then walked out with Ryder and Haley. When we left the cabin Haley ran off to see her friends. I noticed the Aphrodite kids staring at Ryder and I, passing around coins. It looked as if they were placing bets. In amongst them I spotted Sylvia, walking with a tall boy and a girl about the same height. I noticed the boy and Sylvia holding hands. I sighed.

The pavilion was massive, with a table for each cabin and a massive head table for Chiron and the camp director, Mr D, and all the other instructors. There was a massive fire in the middle where we tossed our offerings to the gods. I sat down and stared at my empty plate. I looked around at everyone else's; full of food.

"Um...what do I do?" I whispered to Ryder.

"Ask for it." He said I whispered to my plate that I wanted fish and chips with salad and it just appeared. Then I grabbed my cup and asked for hot chocolate. I sipped the hot liquid; it was beautiful.

Eventually we all got up and started scraping our offerings onto the fire.

"Please claim me soon." I whispered to the fire.

"Don't worry my dear. Soon, soon." Said a female voice. I looked around. No one was talking to a strange lady, that wasn't even there.

"No one else can hear me but you." That made more sense.

"Um...so your in my head."

"Yes, I guess you could say that."

I walked back down to the cabin with everyone, discussing what had happened before camp. Finally the cabin came. I slumped down onto my bed. The end of the day couldn't have come sooner.
