Chapter 8
The next day I made sure to wake up early; seeing Eliza was my goal. I jumped up, out of bed. I looked around the cabin and realised that no one was awake. Oh well I thought, they should be able to figure out for themselves where I've gone. I ran over to the showers and soaked myself in the nice, cool water. Soon, I was completely refreshed and ready to go.
I bolted down to the cabin, making lots of noise even though it was 5o'clock in the morning, just in time to catch Eliza exiting her cabin.
"Eliza." I puffed. She turned and jumped at the sight of someone else.
"Ryder?!" She smiled. She had large bags under her eyes. "Hey, I didn't really expect to see you here."
"What were you doing anyway?"
"I was going to practice my sword play. Want to come?"
"Why not?!" We trotted off to the sandy beach to practice, playfully shoving each other along the way.
"And she takes a head shot! Ooh and he parries it away easily. A lunge to my stomach; I back away. And she tackles!" I laughed at Eliza's running commentary, just before she tackled me to the ground. We wrestled around a bit, rolling all over the place. Eventually tiredness took over and we lay on the smooth sand.
"I always wanted to do this." she said, watching the sun cone up over the water. I looked at her face, so pure and perfect. She doesn't deserve me. I couldn't bear the thought of her being hurt by me. I knew that something would go wrong. Life wasn't fair. I thought of Annabeth. Always crying about the disappearance of her boyfriend, the famous Percy Jackson. They had been dating for about a week before he just disappeared, as if wiped off the face of the earth. It was really sad and no one could get Annabeth to do anything for a while, well not until she composed herself and went away to find Percy. She came back occasionally, to help out and see her siblings, but she was never happy about coming back, as if it brought back unwanted memories. I realised that my situation could have been a lot worse and soon fell asleep
I woke to see two slightly blurry, smiling faces looking down at me. I rubbed my eyes and the faces came clear. It was Connor and Oliver, the two trouble makers.
"Why is it that no one in this damn camp can have a peaceful private sleep on the beach with Eliza..." I looked around. Eliza. Where was she? I saw someone jogging over in the distance.
"Mornin' Sleepy. It's nice to see you up so late." Said Oliver, smirking at me. "Hey Eliza." He said as she came and sat down on the sand across from me.
"I'll have you know that the best sword players need their practice, and it is a lot easier to practice when there is more peace." Eliza said calmly, from where he sat.
"Sure, sure. We were actually sent here to get you guys for Chiron. Your wanted." They walked off, laughing to themselves. Suddenly Eliza jumped up, grabbed my hand and dashed up the hill, dragging me with her.
"I can't believe I forgot! Annabeth told me to remember last night!" She let out a low chorus of swear words, which I knew were some of the worst. We made it up to the big house within seconds.
"Eliza! I thought I told you to remember!" Said Annabeth, standing on the front porch with her hands on her hips, making her look like a mother.
"I forgot." She pulled me inside and sat me down at the table with everyone else. She walked over to Chiron, who was standing, and whispered something in his ear. He whispered something back. It seemed very strange that they would not want to discuss it with everyone else. Eventually Eliza came and sat back down next to me. I glanced around the table. All the cabin leaders were here. I wondered what this could be about.
"Everyone, I have been informed, by the gods, that the Gods Pride has been stolen"
