Chapter Fifthteen

I woke up with the chill of the oncoming evening. I rose only to find Jack latched onto my waist. I instantly felt heat in my cheeks. I tried to move him off but to no avail. I looked at my watch. 10 minutes till dinner. I started to panic. I struggled against Jackson. He mumbled "Ten more minutes please."

"No, wake up we have ten minutes till dinner starts and we have to get there in five."

"But I want to stay here, with you."

"Get up or no kisses for two weeks." Jack shot up and was now angry.

"You wouldn't dare."

"Try me." I looked him in the eye. He lunged forward kissing me. I pushed him away and I started to climb down.

When I was five feet from the deck, I jumped. When I landed I turned to face the Captain who was clapping. He stood up and handed me a three sided hat. I looked at him in doubt. "Everyone in the crew gets them. You had Jackson's when you got the dress."

"Oh I guess I am part of the crew." I felt a breeze and then a loud bang. I turned to see Jack crouched on the ground. I walked up to him and gave him a kiss on the cheek. He got up and I showed him the hat. He grabbed me and swung me on his back. I screeched and grabbed him tighter. He smiled and nodded to the Captain. He started to run.

He ran and ran. I held him tight and squeezed my eyes shut. "Stop!" I yelled but it was carried away in the wind. When I heard voices I thought he would stop for dinner but he didn't. He ran around the whole ship at least twice. I started to get used to wind and so I loosened my grip and raised my head.

I was glad I did. I felt a huge thrill and I laughed. I released my hands and Jack grabbed my legs harder. I laughed and my head fell back. He ran to the dining hall next and he set me down. I was laughing and tears were streaming down my cheeks. Jack looked at me like I was insane. Then he laughed to and put the hat on my head. He grabbed my hand and pulled me inside. I felt everyone's eyes on me when we walked in. We quickly sat down and ate. The women next to me stared at me in awe. "Where were you guys?" She simply asked.

"Jack pulled me onto his back and ran around the ship until I wasn't scared anymore. He wouldn't stop."

She sighed "You're lucky my donor just bites me and then leaves."

"I'm so sorry for that. Jack's different."

"He's different because of you."

"What do you mean?"

"What I mean is that before you came Jack was cruel to everyone. His donor got it the worst. She lost a lot of blood and became weak so the Captain let her go home, after erasing her memories of course. He was mean to the crew and he craved for blood. I'm surprised that he didn't drain you when they brought you aboard." I was silent and she noticed. "You didn't know that did you?" I shook my head. "I'm sorry but I just thought that you knew. Well don't tell Jack I told you." I brought my head up and smile.

"I wouldn't dream of it. Thanks for telling me." She nodded. I went back to eating my dinner, thinking. Why would I be the one to change him? At first I was harsh but he was fine with it. I was mindlessly chewing on a piece of meat when Jack's voice broke me out of my trance.

"Claire, snap out of it."

"What?" There was a small lemon tart in front of me. My mouth watered. I loved lemon. Lemon anything I'd eat. Jack finished and people started to leave. I placed the tart in a napkin and left with Jack.

When we got to my room, I set the tart down and started to eat it. It was like eating heaven. The curd was my favorite part, tangy but sweet at the same time.

I was in love with this tart. Jack sat watching me eat it and he started to chuckle. "You must really like lemon tarts from the way your face looks." I was snapped back into reality. "Yeah anything lemon I love." I finished and change into pj's. I went to sleep with the smell of lemon in the air and in Jacks arms.
