One Month Later

Today, I went to visit Michael's mum.

Sam POV

I sat on the stairway, out of view from the couple in the living room. I could hear them talking, but I couldn't make out any words.

My bag for school was on the other side of the living room. I debated on whether or not I should grab it. It had my phone in it, and I needed to call Luke for help on my maths homework.

Zoe left the room, and I saw my chance. I had to prove to myself that I was over Michael. All I had to do was walk across the room and walk out.

I got up and did just that. Michael's eyes followed me and he stood up when I went to leave.

"Hey, Samantha. Can you wait for a second?" He asked.

I ignored him and kept walking. He followed me.

"Sam, could you listen for one second. I just want to explain-"

I whirled around to look at him.

"You don't get to explain anything and you definitely don't deserve my patience. You were my best friend for sixteen years, Michael. You know my family situation and you still cheated on me with my sister. Why should I wait and listen to your pathetic apology? I'm over you, okay? You're just a two-faced guy who I used to love," I said and stomped up the stairs.

"I still love you," he said.

"Yeah, right," I retorted, and slammed my door shut.

-

I was in my room doing my homework when Zoe walked in. I knew I should've locked the door.

"Hey," she said, leaning against the door frame.

"What do you want?" I asked.

"I went to Michael's house. His mom asked about you."

"Okay. I'll go see her later," I said.

"How about I take you now? I'm leaving to go to the mall, and Mom and Dad aren't home," she said.

"I'm not going. He'll be there," I said.

"No, he won't. He has band rehearsal. Come on. I'll let you drive."

I could've walked if I wanted, and I wanted to, seeing as I had never been this furious with Zoe, but it was cold out today. I reluctantly grabbed my jacket and followed her out.

-

"Samantha, it's so good to see," Michael's mom said when she opened the door.

"Hi, Karen."

Yes, I could call her by her first name. This was my second home. Well, it used to be.

"Come sit at the table," she said and led me to the dining room.

I sat down across from her. She poured me a glass of water, which I thanked her for.

"It's been a while. I'm surprised my son's girlfriend hasn't paid a visit," she said, causing me to choke on my drink.

"Girlfriend?" I said after my coughing fit.

"Yes. You're Michael's girlfriend," she said, giving me a strange look.

"No, I'm not. He's been dating my sister for the past month or so," I said.

"Zoe?"

"Yes. He didn't tell you?" I asked, now confused.
