~~~~~~~~~~~~♡~~~~~~~~~~~~~Draco runs through the castle. His heart is pounding in fear. He reaches the headmistress' office and quickly gives the password. He rushes up the spiral staircase and without thinking to knock, Draco swings the headmistress' office door wide open.
"Miss McGonagall-" Draco practically yelled shut up just as quickly. He took in the scene of Ms. McGonagall siting upright in her chair behind her desk with Professor Flitwick and Professor Sprout standing on her right. Professor Snape and Professor Trelawny at her left. Professor Hagrid perched heavily on a big chair next to Sprout."This better be important Mr. Malfoy." McGonagall looks at the boy with her stern look as always.
"Oh. I'm guessing you read the Prophet?" Draco smiled at his professors. "I was just informed about it by Ms. Granger, you see-."
"Well I suppose we should lock up the school at once. Last time death-eaters escaped from Azkaban..." Ms. Mcgonagall continued as if Draco hadn't even entered the room. All the teachers were now looking down at their issue of the Daily Prophet and a large map of the school and surrounding areas. She turned to Draco "Don't you wish to sit down Mr. Malfoy?" McGonagall asked and with the wave of her wand a chair for him appeared in front of her desk. He slowly took a seat still staring at the professors with large eyes.
"Now then where were we?" Professor Sprout began. "Lock down the school?"
"Well, it would make much more sense. Seeing as last time students were attacked." Professor Snape's deep voice startled Draco. He seemed more concerned with the welfare of the students than he had before. But he was a much different man last time this had happened. Just as the first wizarding war, Snape got off scotch free. Nevermind that he had killed the previous headmaster and overseen the torture of students while he was headmaster. Draco shuddered, the adults in his life really had failed him.
The teachers continued to bicker back and forth amongst themselves. Draco continued to listen attentively to every single word to leave any of the professors' mouths. Finally they all muttered quietly heads close together so Draco couldn't hear. They turned to Draco and waited. Them they all turned to Snape. McGonagall nodded towards the professor.
"Must I tell him then?" Snape asked looking slightly pained. All the other teachers just nodded and said not a word. "Very well then. Draco as you must be aware, three deatheaters have escaped from Azkaban" Draco nodded. "Well it just so happened...one of those deatheaters was your father. The oth-"
"Not my Father please!" Draco couldn't believe what he was hearing. His worst nightmare seemed to be coming true. What he would do to Draco if he could get his hands on him. The last time he had seen his father, just after his trial, they had gotten into a rather large argument. For the first time since he was a child, he really did fear his father. Draco was unaware that he had began to cry. Tears streamed endlessly down his face and dripped into his lap from his chin. This was embarrassing beyond doubt.
Severus rolled his eyes. He walked to Draco's chair and wiped his tears. Snape had always tried in his own way with the boy. Being his godfather and all. Ever since Draco was young Severus had been there sometimes even protecting Draco from his own father.
"Professor," Draco looked at Snape through tears, "If he finds me, he can't know that I-"
"I know." Snape said as he patted the younger man on the shoulder. He squeezed his shoulder. "I will do everything I can son."
The other teachers nodded in agreement and Sprout even cried a little. Draco only nodded back. Still not sure he exactly wanted protection. Snape and McGonagall and the other teachers had almost died in the Second Wizarding War and he definitely didn't want any one of them to die for a useless young wizard like him. He didn't want anyone to die again period.
Snape let go of Draco straightened his own robes and spoke again. This time no emotion in his voice. "McGonagall perhaps the boy should know the plan?"
"Ah yes." Mcgonagall continued for Snape. "Well as you and Snape are as the deatheaters call 'traitors' well we find it unfit for either of you to leave Hogwarts grounds. And we think it is best you are always with at least one other witch or wizard at all times. The escaped will be looking for traitors such as yourselves."
Professor Flitwick added "Rumor has it that Lucius and Rodolphus Lestrange are trying to take over for you-know-who."
"You can say his name. His is dead you know." Interrupted Mcgonagall.
"Right of course. Well they are going to well you know" Flitwick made a look and drew his finger across his throat to represent someone dying. "All the traitors so of course yourself, Mr. Malfoy and Severus are considered in imminent danger"
"Of course," Draco sighed looking almost annoyed now.
Just then the bell chimed and it was time for class. Draco dried his tears, took a deep breath and stood to leave. If there was one thing his father had taught him right, it's that life goes on. The instant he stood all the professors looked at him. Some, Mcgonagall and Sprout looked sad for the boy or maybe for the school or Wizarding world in general. Flitwick and Trelawny remained silent, Trelawny's bug eyes stared into his soul and made him uneasy. As for Snape, he had returned to his usual emotionless glare. He looked as if he were looking through Draco rather than at him, zoned out into space.
"Right then. We all got classes ter teach." Hagrid smiled at the others. "Students 'ell be needin us now."
"Right students shouldn't have to wait for the teachers!" Professor Sprout smiled back at Hagrid. And then at the other teachers.
"Yes... Classes to teach." Snape still emotionless and zoned out as ever, confirmed more to himself than to the others. He walked out of the room robes billowing in his wake. A couple of the other professors shook their heads and exited the room too.
Draco followed being as potions was his next class. He did however over hear before walking out headmistress office Mcgonagall mutter to the other teachers something about being worried about Severus. Draco wondered why anyone would be worried for him. Snape of all people was strong. He always was even when in danger. He had been the one person to betray the Dark Lord after all. Well he and Narcissa Malfoy. He continued to ponder the subject until he reached the dungeons then pushed it to the back off his mind as if if he were to think of it Snape could read his mind. But of course the mind is not a book, to be opened at will and examined at leisure.
