Chapter Thirty-One: We Can Do This

When I didn't get better for three weeks, Toby put his foot down. "I am taking you to the doctor!"

"Toby, I don't like hospitals. Please don't."

"I have to, Vi," he kneeled next to the bed, taking my hand in his. "You're not getting any better, and I promised to take care of you forever, through sickness and health, remember? Well right now you're sick, so I'm taking you to the hospital. C'mon, I'll take you to the car," he lifted me from the bed and carried me to the car, setting me down carefully in the passenger seat. We drove to the hospital in silence, as I was torn between being grateful for Toby's kindness and angry for Toby's persistance. "Okay, we're here. Do you need me to carry you inside?"

"I'm fine," I pushed his hand away, climbing out of the car. Stupid Toby, thinks he's so freaking helpful. We walked inside and sat in the waiting room until my doctor was available. Toby and I were taken to the examination room. The doctor entered shortly after, and he smiled at me.

"Hello, Mrs. Turner. How are you?"

"Pretty crappy, or I wouldn't be here," I snapped.

"She's been throwing up for the last three weeks," Toby explained, jumping in. "We thought it was just the flu, so we were going to let it pass, but she isn't getting any better."

"Hmm," the doctor tapped a pen to his chin. "May I ask you a personal question, Mr. Turner?" Toby agreed. "Have you and Violet had...sexual relations... recently?"

"Umm," Toby's face flushed and he started to play with his thumbs, chuckling nervously. "Well, I mean, we just got married a month ago, and we, uh," he rubbed the back of his neck, "went on our honeymoon.."

"I understand," the doctor cut him off. "Well, Mrs. Turner, I may have an answer for you, if you'll come with me? I apologize, Mr. Toby, but I'm going to have to steal her for a moment."

Toby nodded, and I was lead to another room where I laid in a bed at the doctor's request. Oh my God...

//Toby's POV//

When Violet returned with the doctor, she looked like she had been crying.. "Vi?" I stood and held her shoulders. "Are you alright, honey? What's wrong?" I started to panic.

"No need to be alarmed, Mr. Turner," the doctor chuckled. "They were happy tears."

"How the hell was she crying happily in a hospital?!"

"Toby," Violet whispered, half-smiling at me. "I'm pregnant."

My whole world froze. "W-what? But we... I mean, I know it... B-but," I stuttered. "We only.. Oh my God," I sighed. "Are you really?"

"Are you disappointed," she seemed hurt by my reaction.

"No! No no no no no no," I shook my head laughing. "Of course not, sweetie," I cupped her face in my hand and noticed that the doctor had left, probably to let us be alone. "I'm just a little surprised," I chuckled. "That's all. I'd love to have a child with you."

"Really?" she sniffed.

"Of course! I love you, Vi. I mean, we haven't been married long, but I've been in love with you for over a year. We can handle this, I know we can."

"I love you, Toby," she hugged me as the tears started to flow again.

"I love you, too, honey," I held her, as a few of my own tears fell. "So I'm going to be a daddybuscus?"

She laughed and pulled back to smile at me. "Yes, you are. I'll be mommybuscus. And we'll have a beautiful babybuscus."

"Can't wait," I poked her nose.
