Chapter Twenty: Headaches Are The Least of My Worries
The next morning, Toby went to the post office to get all of the fanmail he hadn't checked in 5 weeks, so I stayed home to make a video. "Hey, Superstars!" I waved my hand in front of the camera, before dropping my smile when I realized that you could see my scar in that shot... I sighed and stood up to restart the recording, but a sudden wave of nausea washed over me and I stumbled back into a shelf, knocking CD's and DVD's all over the floor. I held my head in one hand, breathing deeply. My head was pounding so badly I thought it was going to burst open.. The doctor told me that due to my head injuries I might have spontaneous headaches but he never said that they would be this bad! I need to call Toby, I reached into my pocket for my phone before remembering it was in the kitchen... On the other side of the house... Okay, you can make it, Vi, I took a deep breath before walking slowly to the kitchen. Moving made the headache worse, and I started to see little black spots in my vision. I could see my phone on the counter, all I had to do was...
//Toby's POV//
I was on my way home when my phone started to ring. I checked the caller ID and saw that it was Violet, so I answered, "Hey, Vi. What's up?"
"Toby," she groaned.
"Violet?" I froze. "Are you alright? Violet?!"
"Toby," she sounded like she was crying.. "I need-" a clattering sound echoed throughout the phone.
I stared at my phone and pushed it back to my ear. "Violet?! Are you okay? VI?!" I started to sprint home. No, no, no, no, no, no, no!
//Violet's POV//
I collapsed, dropping my phone as the room spinned around me. I could hear Toby calling my name, but I couldn't speak. I heard the door open and slam. "Violet! Where are you?!" I wanted to call for him, but I couldn't. "Violet?!" Toby ran down the hallway connecting to the kitchen and saw me collapsed on the ground, gasping. "Violet! Are you okay, honey?" he kneeled next to me, pulling me into his lap and brushing the hair out of my face. "Vi, are you awake?" I tried to nod, but any movement at all was excruciating, so I just blinked. "Can you answer me?" If I could, I would, idiot, I wanted to yell. "Just hold on, I'll get you some medicine," he tried to pick me up, but doing so caused my head to toss to the side and I screamed in pain. "Sorry, sorry!" he laid me down gently on the ground to keep me still before running to the medicine cabinet and grabbing some pain reliver. "Here, I need you to sit up so you can take this," he slipped a hand under my head. "I'm sorry," he whispered before pulling me up. "Here," he slipped two pills into my mouth and handed me a glass of water. A few minutes later the pain was still there, but it was more of a dull pain.
"Thank you," I laid my head against his chest, clutching his shirt.
He ran his fingers through my hair, "Of course, honey. I love you, you know that right?"
"No, really," I laughed lightly. "I never noticed."
He poked my nose. "Silly Violet."
The random headaches continued to occur over the next week, and we eventually went back to the hospital to ask our doctor about it. He said they would probably continue for the next month or so, but they shouldn't be so terrible after that, which gave me a small amount of relief. When we returned home, Toby decided to go to bed. "Do you need anything before I head up?"
"I'll be fine," I smiled.
"Okay," he kissed my cheek. "I'll check on you in fifteen minutes, so try to live that long," he smirked before heading to the bedroom.
I walked to the kitchen to grab a snack and saw that Toby had left the mail on the table this morning, so I started to sift through it. I found a completely white envelope with no return address or sender, which was odd since most of Toby's fans wanted him to write back. What bothered me about it though was that the name on the front was "Anonymous." The tweet wiggled itself into my memory, and I gasped. Was it the same person? I loked over my shoulder to make sure Toby wasn't here before ripping the envelope open. Inside was a white piece of printer with an address and pictures... of me. One was me walking down the sidewalk, one was me in the front yard, me leaving the hospital... one of me lying unconscious in the car at the crash site... Under the address the person had written, "You've obviously figured out by now that I don't like you. Surprises, surprises. You should also know that I know where you and Toby live. If you aren't at this address at 2:00 AM on May 9th, alone, you can kiss your precious life goodbye. If that isn't enough motivation for you..." I gasped, bringing my hand to my mouth. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I read the last sentence.
"We have Felix and Marzia."
"Violet?" Toby called, and I knew he was coming. He couldn't see this letter! I shoved it in my back pocket, and smiled at Toby when he came in. "I couldn't sleep without you," he smirked, wrapping his arms around my waist and kissing my cheek. Usually, I would've been kissing him like you've never seen anybody kiss anyone before right now, but all I could think about was the letter. "C'mon, Vi," Toby held my hand and walked with me to the bedroom. We layed down and, he wrapped his arms around my waist from behind, sighing into my hair. "I love you, Violet."
"I love you, Toby," I whispered, trying not to cry. I didn't know if I would ever hear him say that again... I turned around, burying my face into his chest and curling into a ball. His arms wrapped around my back, holding me against him. "I love you so much."
He kissed the top of my head before holding my arm and tracing my scar lightly, creating a sort of rhythm. Up, down. I wonder what will happen to me. Up, down. Will I die if I go? Up, down. Will Felix die if I don't? Up, down. Will Marzia? Up, down. I have to go. Up, down. I have to go alone. Up, down. I couldn't tell Toby. Up, down. I had to leave him. Up, down. Tomorrow. Up, down. I don't want to. Up, down. But I have to. Up, down. Goodbye, my love.
