Alright, this is just a short, filler chapter so don't go ape-schmoo crazy on me! In the next upcoming chapters, however, BIG events will begin to unfold!

But, this chapter is the way it is because I have the most stressing finals ever and, even though their almost done, I've got a lot to do to plan for more upcoming events. Plus, I needed some time between one big event from another! Also, I had to work on my other story Maxine's Territory becase my writer's block had past and I had some wonderful fans patiently waiting three long months. So like I said, no made at a me! Capishe!?

Good, glad we're on the same page.

Chapter 15 ~ What to Expect when You’re Expecting the Worst

Damon’s P.O.V.

KC was staring blankly out of the balcony window, her gaze fixed on the trees and her arms wrapped firmly around her stomach. She had changed into shorts and a t-shirt, her hair tossed over one shoulder. Her face was illuminated a dim orange, the setting sun crawling lower in the sky. She didn’t move when I walked through the door.

“KC,” I said, hoping that she would turn to look at me. She was still, didn’t even flinch. I called again, but she remained motionless, not even blinking as she studied the woods. I walked up behind her and rested my chin on the top of her head as I snaked my arms around her waist. “We need to talk about this,” I whispered, feeling her shutter.

“I’m not ready for this, Damon,” KC sighed, her gaze not shifting from the shadows of the forest. Her grey eyes were dark with anxiety and even mental exhaustion. “I can barely take care of myself, nevertheless a baby.”

“I think you’ll do just fine,” I cooed, sliding my hand under hers so that my palm rested on her stomach.

“What about Doyle?” KC spun towards me, genuine concern trapped in her irises. “What about my wolf? My mother and my friends? Our pack? What about you?” she breathed blatantly. “I can’t protect any of you when I have to protect myself!”

“KC, just calm down,” I urged, gliding my hands up her arms soothingly, tendrils of lust teasing my fingertips. “For one thing, I don’t need protecting. I can do that on my own, thank you very much. Secondly, you don’t need your wolf to protect yourself. She’ll be protecting our child and you will be protecting yourself.”

“And Doyle? If he finds out he will use it against us, Damon! There are weaknesses that I just can’t get around and one of them is life. If he were to threaten me with you or mom or even the life in my stomach, I would be defenseless. I hate to say it, Damon, but this child is just another weakness to me at the moment.”

“I understand, love, but we will work around this so that the both of you can stay safe.” KC was shaking beneath my palms and I could sense that bad memories were coming back to her. “Doyle won’t find out about it and Doyle will not get to you,” I pressed, leaning my forehead against hers. Her hot breath fanned my face and I breathed in her alluring scent, now twice as strong for whatever reason.

“You can’t know that,” KC whimpered quietly. “I mean, he already did once and I have the scars to prove it.” I could feel her trembling in my arms and I could smell that she was scared.
